I've been working on some entities most of the morning. After tweaking the mesh, UV maps, whatever, I would load into GG to test, see how it looks, then exit, go back into Blender, do some work, export, delete my bin and dbo, and relaunch GG. All was fine until sometime between 9 am and 10 am my time. (I'm GMT- 7). Now all I get is this, every time, even after a reboot:

The editor will reset eventually, attempt to return to it's previous session, and come back exactly the same.

Now before I uninstall and venture into the unknown (I've never had to uninstall and reinstall anything from Steam, so I'm not sure what will happen):

1. Is this possibly related to the update that came about this morning?

2. Is anybody else having issues?

3. Besides entities and scripts, is there anything new I should set aside as backup?

EDIT: I see my update happened at 6:54 am my time. That was at least a couple hours before this started.

Ok mine seems fine.....

Steam updates are pretty seamless and when you start GameGuru it will automatically update....
It does inform you its doing it and gives you the link to the changlog in the steam update box.

@Jerry

You can uninstall from add / remove /programs..... then simply go to your steam games...click on GameGuru and install.....
All seamless and rarely gives problems ....

Reinstalling would be my first test....backup any custom models though.... It shouldn't be a issue they should be fine but just in case

Thanks syncromesh, I'm in the process of backing up to my network drive; 19G takes a while even on a LAN! Reinstalling was my last resort. I tracked it down to 2 hours, 12 minutes after the update before my first crash, so I was pretty sure it wasn't update related, unless suddenly MY antivirus doesn't like it! LOL, now that would be ironic!

Just an FYI, the uninstaller doesn't even touch the File folder, so everything in there remains intact.

I noticed this on the steam update.

[1] Some users had issues with GameGuru and their virus checkers, with the virus checker reporting a false positive. An error "enhancement runtime error 2" would appear. This is now fixed in this new release.

If you receive this error after the new patch, then take the following steps:
Once you have updated to the latest version of GameGuru, there will be a folder inside the GameGuru installation that needs to be white listed / excluded from your virus checker.
To find out which folder GameGuru is installed to, go to the Library and steam, right click on GameGuru and select properties, then the Local files tab. Once on the Local files tab click "Browse Local Files" this will enable you to locate the folder that needs to be white listed / excluded. The folder you are looking for is inside the Files folder of GameGuru and is called dllbank (DLLBANK).
We have found in our own testing that some users would need to reboot after excluding the folder for it to work.

Not sure if this is related or the fix has broken something else. Not tried GG yet myself since the update.

19G !! wow

better to try again fresh first though.... then add your files and if it suddenly kicks off then at least you know it could be a previous file causing an issue...
lets hope it all goes smoothly though

That's what I feared, but after digging and finding the times these events occurred, I'm pretty sure it wasn't related, but who knows?

I'm still downloading GG to try the reinstall.

I just finished the reinstall, (I didn't delete the Files Folder, though, for the record) and it works fine! So far, anyway!

EDIT: Now I've kinda lost interest/focus on what I was working on all morning!

I have the same problem, gameguru no longer functions...

Started right after the steam update this morning I get the same visual as Jerry Tremble.
This is very frustrating, now I have to spend my time trying to fix the problem.. what a pain!!

I completly removed anything but copied and backup offcourse the files folder.
The i did a new install, and now it is working again.
So what went wrong... i don't know..
But it looks like a fresh install solves the problem.

It will be interesting to see whether it happens again after we've reinstalled. Like I said earlier, my update happened at 6:54 this morning, but I didn't get the problem until 9:06 (first crash) with several relaunches in between.

Hi,

We're looking into this. I've not been able to replicate it at the moment, but will keep trying.

It appears from what users have said that an uninstall followed by a reinstall fixes the issue.

So, it looks like removing last update fix the issue, so we can thinks than the last update is the cause?
Or perhaps you reinstall gg and later update again?

The reinstall IS the updated file, it's just not the little bits and pieces that Steam normally kicks out as updates. I used the update for two hours before having the issue, and it looks like others had no issues until after using it a while as well. It remains to be seen if the reinstall holds up.

Perhaps it is a steam overlay issue. It looks like it could be related, given the box layout of the corrupted editor image.

My god, it's an epidemic!

Quote: "as you can see its trying to run 2 different Guru's??? "

There are always two processes running with Guru, one is game, one is the interface. This has always been so, even with Reloaded. I always start GG from the shortcut too, but even if you're not connected to the internet, the Steam Client still launches as well.

We suspect that crash is related a possible memory leak but we need to reproduce.

The advice for any user will be to reinstall for now. We'll look at it tomorrow and try and get a fix ASAP

I just completed a uninstall and reinstall and everything seems to be back to normal.
The uninstall did not effect (I did not lose any changes/additions to bank files) , entity, script, etc, etc

Before the reinstall, when the editor misfired, if you tried to open a file from the mapbank the 2 to 3 inch square in the upper left of what should be the editor field appears to contain the image that should fill the larger editor field (Faint but there). You can make out the memory scale.

Hope the reinstall holds for the duration....

Build V1.00.004 works for me but , even if you use the shortcut to run 'Guru' you still have to exit Steam . I tried before exiting Steam and the 'level' I saved yesterday had no 'moving' (sky) clouds but when I ran with Steam off line but did not exiting Steam the cloudy day sky was back to the clear sky with moving clouds . I closed 'Guru' and then exited Steam (in the hidden icon thing) , restarted 'Guru' and ran my saved level again and the cloudy day sky was back .

If you only use the shortcut you made and not the other one that Steam set up for you then you don't have to use the exit Steam thing I mentioned .
I hope that makes sense . I don't think you will get any auto updates if you exit Steam unless you restart it.

nuncio, have you let the most recent update install? If you still have this problem, it may not be necessary to reinstall the whole thing. In my other thread, dark_dragon pointed out that Steam can verify the installation:

Quote: "When GameGuru crashes like that there is no need to re-install it from scratch. Simply right click on GameGuru from within steam go to "Properties" then "Local Files" Then click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" This will Re-acquire any files that are missing."

Good luck!

My Game Guru updated to the latest .14 version and I got exactly the same issue as the OP (GG was working fine yesterday on .13 for me).

As @JerryTremble had pointed out I did the verify of local files through Steam (as I had done a few days back) and it could not verify 178 files. This was the same number as the first time I had to do this.

Can now say that .14 is working fine here at the minute.

Some advice for those who are getting the black screen crash or the editor separating
We are tracking down the cause of this now

Right clicking on GameGuru in the Steam library, click properties, then local files, then click VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE.
This will perform a repair on the GameGuru build, and restore any missing files.

It won't affect custom media or maps, so is safe to use.
This method only applies to the above crash and is faster than a full reinstall..

We expect to have a fix for this very soon.

Thank you

I just had the "editor separating " issue when I tried to run gameguru at 3:20 Pacific time on 3/5/15

Had to validate Gameguru files thru steam to correct the issue.
Steam indicated 178 files falied to validate. (it is always 178 files) +/-)
The folders containing the validated files at 3:24 after validation were the following...
Gridedit, cfg.cfg, testmap folder and all files in it
Guru-lightmapper.exe
Guru-mapeditor.ini
setup.ini
showonstartup.ini
