Hi guys! With the launch on steam I noticed a lot of Steam users are curious how to bring in custom models into the engine. I created this simple tutorial on how to import 3D models into Game Guru using 3D Studio Max. I am using 3DS Max 2014. If you are using a different 3D Modeling program, don't worry. Many other programs support the ability to export to .X DirectX files. Just look for a plugin that is compatible with your 3D modeling software.

Hi,
your guide is really useful and I have to thank you for that. I created lot of 3d files and added them to my project. There is only one 3d model that's driving me crazy.
I created like always the x file (exporting from 3dsmax 2015), the 3 DDS files with Photoshop/Nvidia plgn and the 128x128 bitmap and I edited a simply fpe file.
I find this model inside gameguru library and if I try to select it the everything appears to work. I can place it, move it, scale it etc..
In unexpected way when I try to start the game preview the gameguru client stop running and a resuming session starts.
I created a simply project with just this model (it's a statue) and the problem is just inside this file. Do you have anything in mind to help me?
Thank you

@Getlucky

Is your stack collapsed, x-form reset and all of that on that model?

What is the vertex count on it?

Can you post the .FPE?

@Getlucky

That is a really pretty high poly model and you have it scaled way, way up and you had it set to polygon collision. So I think that was causing a problem. Use box collision instead. Eventually we will get cylinder collision which will be optimal for that.

In FPE I changed:

collisionmode = 0

to

collisionmode = 1

and it loaded right in.

You should edit your post now to remove the attachment unless it is a model you have created yourself and wish to share it.

edit: Also, you should pre-scale the mesh in max as opposed to doing it in the importer. Also the base of the statue should be at 0,0,0 world coords. When I placed it in the level it was halfway into the ground.
