Just got my "key" from email, input the key on Steam, downloaded GG, pull it up to play for first time, and the editor window keeps going from blue to black, and constantly shows this message "resuming from previous session" i literally can't do anything with the engine, please help!

For the Record my PC stats are as follows:
Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 640 Processor 3.00GHz
Memory: 11GB DDR3
OS: Win 7 64bit
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4200

Can you use the task manager to kill both the GameGuru processes.

Was this upon initial opening or loading a map file?

It happened from the beginning, I tried ending both the GameGuru.exe and the GameGuru Map Editor processes, and the started it back up, and it still did it.

Ok, I will direct this to Support. Sorry you are having this issue.

In the meantime, I am going to suggest an uninstall and reinstall of GameGuru.

Is this installed in the folder that steam wanted to put it in?
And May I get your machine specs and operating system for support.

Thank you.

Ok, I believe my specs are posted in the 1st post, if more info is needed let me know. I tried Uninstall/Reinstall, no good. I still have FPSC:R on my PC, could that be causing the conflict?

Ah Ha! Except for the error, this is EXACTLY what is happening with mine. Pirate Myke, if you can solve this issue, it will correct mine from another post. My GG also alternates between Gray and black. Gray is my original background color, yours might be blue. However, the issue is still the same I think. The ONLY difference is the error. My error that it's stuck at is "..Checking files for you" when I start the application.

Oh BTW, re-installing GG won't work. At least it didn't for me. I did it 4 times last night.

Nice suggestion Jahnee. I too still have FPSCR installed. However, it made no difference when I uninstalled it just now. I uninstalled FPSCR, deleted every file/folder associated with it and rebooted to make sure.

No change.

Please help us Pirate Myke.

Oh, my specs are:

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Processor
16gb Ram
Nvidia GTX 650 TI
Windows 7 Pro 64bit

I might tomorrow switch over to my other system and install "everything" under Windows 10 ( which is coming soon ). It seems to be more stable than 7 in some cases for me. We'll need to test that soon anyway?

@3d man, I posted this in your other thread.

Long shot, but worth a try.

How about for fun we try deleting all the temp file for dbpro in the C:\Users\YourProfile\AppData\Local\Temp folder

There will be a million DBPdate## folders. Delete them all and try again please. This happened to me once a while ago when I was monkeying around. But fixed this kind of thing for me and one other user a while ago.

No guarantees, but cant hurt. All the file are is left over temp file from game tests. So if one wont delete, it will tell you its being used, and that might be the problem. Long shot, This is not from support. this is from me.

Okay, so at this point, I have deleted any and all FPSC:R stuff I could find, I've even removed all of my FPSC Classic files, uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times, removed all of the dbpro files in AppData\Local\Temp, restarted my PC every time I change something.... Still I get the "resuming from previous session"

Is there any place on the computer, other than Program Files, AppData\Local\Temp, and Documents, where FPSC:R files may be stored?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'll continue to try and figure something out....

Also thanks to all of those who have been trying to help, TGC community is far greater than those at Unity, Realmcrafter, or Garage Games.

I'm sorry it didn't work. Deleting the DB... files from the temp folder worked for me. I guess your issue is different than mine was. The similarity between our two issue was that the screen kept changing from black to blue. Thats why I thought they were the same. I'm at a lose on your issue. Pirate Myke helped me and I'm sure he'll help you too. Just hang in there. Good luck.

@3dMan thanks for trying to help

So I have a general question for anyone who can answer it:
Where in the program does it hold the code to reload previous sessions? Perhaps I can edit this file, and fix my problem...

If this is what I think it is..... don't panic...
use add and remove programs to uninstall GameGuru.... your files should be safe..
Then go to steam and click GameGuru in your list then click "Install"

Whole process takes about 5 to 10 mins...

Hopefully you should be good to go again ...

If your unsure back up your files directory first

I have figured out when it is happening... it is a build glitch. I was able to get in the program (somehow) and cause it to bring up a flat level. Once that happened, I was golden and able to use the software. When I went to build a stand alone program, I just happened to see that it removed ALL the entities of my level, leaving only the actual ground texture changes. Instead of closing it to try my game, like I was going to, I instead loaded a blank level then closed the program. No issues loading after that. I hope this helps pinpoint the issue.

@synchromesh - I did exactly what you said, which I have tried already, and still no good. When I go to Add/Remove Programs, and click on "uninstall" it simply pulls up steam, where it says it will remove the files from my PC but leave the game in my list. I need to find a way to tell the program that there is no "previous session".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step by Step, this is what happens:
Launch GameGuru (either from steam or the desktop shortcut, doesn't matter)
GameGuru launches with a blue screen (at this point, the Entities tab is shown but not the icon to add entities)
The editor window turns grey for half a second then black (still no add entity icon in tab)
Then the editor window turns Blue again and a grey box appears (as shown in first post)

When the blue screen with the "resuming from previous session" is shown, no menu links or icons can be clicked
When it is not shown, all menu options and icons can be clicked, but they do nothing.

Don't know if that info helps at all, but this is getting frustrating...

Okay, so here is a bit of an update:

As a bronze pledger I was given 2 keys. So I used the second key to install GameGuru on my wife's computer. This computer has half the processor power and RAM that mine does, but the only game engine that has ever been on it is Unity, so mostly a clean slate. Step by step, here is what happened...

Installed GameGuru
Launched the app
Lowe and behold, "resuming from previous session"
But it went away. Then an error window came up saying "object has an invalid path" (or something to that affect)
I continued to click "close" button on the error window, to no avail
At this point the program was completely frozen, Ctrl,Alt.Delete
Ended the process GameGuru.exe
Had to end the process for the Map Editor separately
Restarted the app
Now in the "resuming from previous session" loop

***wondering if I should find a new hobby

Weird... It seems like a corrupt installation ... It has all the symptoms of what was going around earlier this week...
Can I assume you have uninstalled and tried again ?

Instead of reinstalling you could try this, open steam right click on GG click properties, go to local files, click verify integrity of game cache, and steam will repair corrupt files.

On my system when I use "click verify integrity of game cache" and it finds corrupt or missing files and reloads them I need to reboot my system before the fix will allow guru to function as before.

Seeing the above posts I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with this problem

For some time I have posted in the scripting forum, the lack of a workable script debugging system. Currently, if GG finds an error when testing a new script (in test mode), it locks-up (usually at the point where it is loading dynamic lights) and the program does not display the error message. Only after using Task Manager can I get to the error message which will not show-up above the full screen GG splash page.

Once I see the message and clear it, the system attempts to "Resume Previous Session". In the many times this has happened, only once did the system reset and allow me to continue. In ALL other cases, something goes wrong with GG, and I end-up having to either reboot the program, or in many cases I find that something has gone so wrong that I must reboot my computer before GG will work again.

For now I'm not using the resume function as I simply kill the program in Task Manager, which usually prevents me from having to reboot my computer. As LUA scripts become more extensive the GG team needs to do better with resetting and displaying scripting errors.

Well....

2005 bought Realmcrafter, 10 years later it is still not usable or stable
2007 bought FPSC, limited, but seldom had any major issues
2013 FPSC:R Bronze Pledger, still in early production... I'll wait....
2015 GameGuru, so excited, can't wait! "resuming from previous session", ...... well, back to Unity, check back here later

This so sucks because I have both a "pen & papper" tabletop RPG and a Trading Card Game coming out this summer, would have loved to have GameGuru to create a game to coincide with the other two. Now its back to Unity, and hope for an FPS game release by winter....

As a note, I want to say, I am not downing "The Game Creators" in any way! Every product I have purchased from them has been worth the money, every time. I don't mind waiting, 10 years of crap from Solstar Games, with Realmcrafter, before I finally gave up, Game Crafters easily deserve twice that length of time. I look forward to a working product, and will check back daily to see what's new, what's going, and such.

Thanks for all the help trying to figure this problem out!

i can understand this. i had this in GG and an unknown runtime error that caused FPSCR to crash a hundred times last night, i think i'll leave it cause i can't see a way to make this map work properly. i uninstalled and reinstalled both and then again and again. i lost all of my motivation

I appreciate the Steam key. But I have the same problem or similar:

On load, guru-mapeditor.exe crashes

AppName: guru-mapeditor.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 ModName: dbprobasic3ddebug.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.0 Offset: 0004d999

On closing that I get stuck in the "resuming from previous session" loop.

I have XP and very close specs to the minimum required (listed on Steam). I've loacted the DX redist file in SteamApps and installed it again, I've verified my cache of files via Steam, it said it re-acquired 1 file but after that still crashing. I do have FPSC (9?) on my PC and I don't really want to delete it...cos it loads and I can use it and that's fun. The earlier betas of FPSC Reloaded also loaded fine (but were pretty slow on my PC).

But Game Guru - nada, nothin, just a crash and an annoying loop every time.

Suggestions appreciated. I know this PC is a bit ancient but it meets the minimum specs as far as I can tell.

regards

Check your version.ini. It should be v1.00.021

Also, Please list your full specs along with the antivirus you are using.

Hey Guys,
So I've popped back over to GameGuru (fresh and agitated, lol) to see if I can figure out what the heck is going on. I have found something, but I'm not sure how to rectify it. So I ran a "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" and it says 1 file failed. Then I varify the files again, and it says all files passed. So I start it up, and I get this window saying "an unnamed file contains an invalid path". I should not that the program previously during its "resuming from previous session" loop, was trying to load a level called "test" from my F: drive, which had morrowind on it??? So yeah, the fun just keeps on going. Is there a way to make GameGuru not try and restart the previous session?

I don't use an anti virus.

AMD Athlon II X2 245 processor
2.91 ghz, 3.25gb ram
ATI Radeon HD 4200
DX 9.0c

I guess ATI Radeon might not be enough? But as mentioned before FPSC Reloaded worked alright (just laggy). I can play Skyrim and Metro games just fine - it'd be nice to think the settings of game guru can be turned down for older PC's (as you could do with FPSC Classic).

Thanks!

In test game using the metrics panel (Tab Tab) you can adjust the graphics impact based on your cards capability.

Check it out and see what the setting do and the effect they have good or bad.

This is below minimum spec for GameGuru. There is a lot more going on with GG then in Classic so the demands are higher.

TGC recommends a graphics solution with a passmark score of 1000 or better and I would say to go even higher for a fully enjoyable experience.

Your integrated HD4200 scores 118...

Hi all, back again. Still no work around for the "resuming from previous session" issue, but this time something new happened. After having to go into "processes" to close out the program, i got an error window that says:

Display Mode Error
W1280H1024D22R60 HAL A=0 P=64
D£DPP=1-1280-1024-75-22-1-1-0-722080-0-0--214748648-3-1 HR=1

Anybody got a clue about this?

Has anyone found a solution for any of the three problems>? lol

i noticed it has only been three problems ive seen to try to begin gameguru,
1) Resuming from previous session loop
2) unnamed file contains and invalid path
3) the pop up window that says Display mode error

now for the past 2 days ive been trying to research for a solution on here, steam, and other online forums. so far i have found nothing. i first got gameguru on my laptop and the first problem i recieves was #2 from above the problem list. it became frustrating and ive been speaking to some programmers and developers with no solution yet. then a day later i just installed gameguru on my desktop to see if it works on there compared to my laptop. it recieved its own problem, #3 from above of the display mode error. so both pc's have two different problems. im trying to see if any one has a say in this or maybe even a solution for a step i can take forward? A few hours ago, i recieved a message from the programmers from this website about this problem with the invalid file path from my laptop. he told me to uninstall gamedguru, then restart my computer, then install it again with a description on why i should and that 99% of the time that will work. i did exactly what he said, i even uninstalled my antivirus right after i uninstalled it so that i can restartart the computer kind of fresh. but when i installed it again the problem still occured which was honestly frustrating to see. so i decided to message him back and tell him that it didnt work. so after i sent him that message i decided to sleep on it hoping id wake up with an answer. i havent gotten an answer just yet so ill still be waiting. a few minutes ago tho i tried to research a little more on what i can do. i even reread a thread from steam with the same problem just to make sure if i missed something. then i read a certain comment from the thread and i remembered that since i installed it again, the number in the file "showonstartup.ini" is 1, i changed it to 0 hoping it would work! so i did change it an saved it to 0. now right now, as i rrestarted the gameguru, instead of going to resuming previous seesion, then to loading terrain, then to that pop up window of invalid path, it now just keeps looping the "resuming previous session" windows. any solution to that? i fear that since the "unnamed file contains invalid path" window will still pop up even after we can resolver the loop because that window would show up right after loading terrain, so since the loop keeps holding me back from reaching the loading terrain part, that window wont pop up yet.
