As Requested I have started work on some Civil War (1860) models. So far I started off nice and easy and created some fencing that you might typicaly have found on the field of war in that era:

And now I have started work on a large building again of the 1860 time frame:

And a Letter Box to go with that:

HP Pavilion Laptop, AMD A8-4555M APU with Radeon(tm) Graphics HD Graphics 1.6GHz, 8GB Memory, 64 Bit Operating System (Windows 8.1), 1 TB Hard Drive.

Thanks Guys:

Of course we can't have Civil war models without some kind of weapons, here is my attempt at a 10" Mortar Siege Cannon.

Very nice indeed. Coming along great. Do you have quixel suites? What a wonderful texture program that is.

Thanks Pirate Myke

No I don't have Quixel Suite, but I have just had a look at it and I think I might buy a copy. At the very least I might buy a copy of there DDO which is only $50 (£32.50) which allows hobbyists and freelancers to sell assets online with no restrictions.

Wonderful program, If you have no problems generating normal maps then DDO will work good for you.
Now I too can make my own textures.

Getting there:

Not hundred percent on the black metal on the main cannon, I might play around with it.

and of course we need some 10" Cannon Balls:

I have put the Siege Cannon up in the store with a slightly different texture on the cannon body and the first house is now taking shape.

Next to come is another cannon, some guns (for show) and maybe a fort.

May I suggest some field artiliery?

These types of models remind me of a weapon by Cosmic Prophet I rigged for him back in the day, it was a bolt action rifle I think. Seams to be fitting for these types of models. I'll have to dig it up and see if I can find it.

Keep up the modeling

Absolutely in the right direction Taz, really really good.

I think it's just the texture on the wheels that needs a bit of tweaking

Looking awesome Tazman!

My only suggestion would be to make the wheels all iron opposed to the wood texture, other than that looking great!

Sure guy!, you've a great talent to do so.

I had discovered that I feel most confortable doing my own textures, and adapting those to the meshes needes.
Waiting for Max, blender and many others 3d format files support.

I've some reazonable doubt, If GG support lets say 3ds max format, we can stop dealing with D,S,N texture files?

Thanks everybody, if it weren't for all the exceptional advice that I have had in this forum since I started last year I wouldn't have got as far as I have now.

I have listened to you all and checked out all the software that was mentioned and I am now really enjoying what I do.

That's it folks the Field Cannon has been put in the shop for there consideration. Here is the final product:

I think that the next project should be a Gun and a Knife, something like this:

I decided to start with the Bowie Knife, here is the initial clay model:

Now I just need to touch it up and texture it.

I have no idea how to turn this into a weapon to be used for the player, if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Hello Pirate Myke. If you mean adding bones to my model then no, I haven't really touched on this yet but I do want to do this as I will need it to carry on my learning.

If you could help or point me in the direction for what I would need to make this knife into a weapon for GameGuru I would appreciate it.

Making weapons is no mean feat! I am currently trying as well.

I know Wolf has tried a little. It appears to be a race for modellers to learn. The best way to learn is to take a look at the stock weapons, look at there FPE's, gunspecs, folder and file layout and learn from that.

With regards to rigging. I am currently making my own rig; I am a Blender user and there is no (accurate) method to bring the stock arms into Blender to rig the weapons to.

Myke is a fountain of knowledge with modelling, so, I will let him give you more advanced advice with rigging etc.

Great looking models by the way. I really like the cannon; you have done well with the texture work on it. Although, one small crit would be the poly count on the wheels. It seems a little high, but, that is just me being fussy. Great work.

Cheers

Jay.

@TazMan

What model program are you using? You may have mentioned in another thread, but its hard to keep track of who models with which.

I can assist you in getting this to a rig. It is not hard, there are just some procedures to follow, when attaching your new weapon to the rig. So it don't fly off into space, or deform when Moving the wrist or arms.

Let me know, when you are ready for that.
Thanks

Thanks for that 3com I will have a look at that.

Anyway onwards, The next in the series is the Civil War Rifle (Huge thing), here is an image of it in process:

I finished the Bowie Knife, it will going up soon as a static model, until I can work out how to turn it into a useable weapon:

On another note, the Civil War Field Cannon has been rejected for the moment, because the engine does not like the size when it is light mapped. TGC are investigating.

Thanks everybody

The Civil War Field Cannon has been accepted at last, I managed to shave some more poly's off the model to get it through the light mapping, but I really think that this needs looking at. I am sure that we are going to get larger poly models than this in the future.
