Use to be able to export a static x file, But never an animated one.
Been this way since the classic days. There are whole threads of people trying to get animated Xfile from Maya in one shot.
I have always had to run the models threw a series of programs to get anything animated from Maya working.
Only had 2 out of 25 actually work without re rigging them in 3DMax. I am hoping that someday, somebody will write a decent xfile exporter for that program. It has keep me from using Maya for the last 5 years.
Even an FBX file from Maya does weird translation when imported into 3DMax, usually having the major joints backwards or pull out of rig alignment.
Plus you normally have to strip out the rig controller that are used. Lot of work. Fragmotion has saved me a few times for this task.
