Hi! I would like to make a far cry like island with green vegetation (lushy2 f.e.) AND a sand beach. i can't find a way to paint a sand beach structure but in the latest game guru demo video i thought i saw a beach...
the only ground structure i can paint is some brown like dirt / sand but not beach sand, like desert sand.
when i make a desert level i can't pick green vegetation how do i do this?
thanks for your help

In this case I prefer a modeled terrain, using sand texture, rocks, palms, a hammock, coconuts, and a good glass of cold margarita.
But of course, you need some good waves for surfing, to win realism in your scene, a little foam. All this can be found on the TGC store.
This is only a suggestion.

is there another way of building it without purchasing something?
i didn't find the things i was looking for in the store but i would also like to know how to build these things myself?! i would like to know more about the possibilities of GG before i get deeper inside and start buying additional stuff.

If you want modeled yourself, there is 3d soft called Blender, it's free software, however it has a very large curve of learning, I not familiar with it, but 3ds max.
Also there is Milkshape and many others

I you want to make with GG, well there are water, desert sand, palms, tropical trees, stones, woodden huds. There are onboard many free stuff, even an ocean IIRC.
Nices and useful tutoriales, and many nice/wise people here willing for help'u with a lot expericence modelers and scripters ( no myself included)

I guess you are looking for something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv89chmj6b4

yes i have downloaded and tried blender already. it looks very good but of course it will take me a lot of time to get some experience, to be able to create such an environmant as the one you put in this video.

Quote: "I guess you are looking for something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv89chmj6b4"

yes this is even more than i wanted

Quote: "I you want to make with GG, well there are water, desert sand, palms, tropical trees, stones, woodden huds."

yes, i found these things, great stuff. but it's just about that beach texture on the ground! the palm trees and the huts etc are good stuff!!

Quote: "There are onboard many free stuff, even an ocean IIRC."

what do you mean with this? in the GG program library? if yes, where? i just found a flowing river.

Quote: "Nices and useful tutoriales, and many nice/wise people here willing for help'u with a lot expericence modelers and scripters ( no myself included) "

yes i think the people here are very nice and helpful

===EDIT:===
i found a tutorial on youtube how to create a beach using blender. i think somehow this could be possible for me but HOW do i transport this new built beach into FP... eeehm GG??!?!

Here is a screenshot of a test map I was working on called "Turtle Beach". The terrain editing in GameGuru is not easy to use for making exactly what you want but the smoothing tool is indeed useful.

EDIT: nevermind the forums seem to not let me attach images anymore?

i havent done it myself but i believe you can change the paint textures with your own - i.e. instead of the gravel you would use a sand texture - i'm not sure where that is in the files but it shouldnt be too difficult to find

It's already in the "Paint Ground" texture. You also don't need to purchase separate entities from the Store to make your Beach Scene, as GG comes with a wide assortment of entities that you can use. Everything in this scene that I mocked up (and tweaked the settings a bit) in literally 5 minutes, shows this.

Its not a beach as such but a bit deeper in the jungle ... But the look is there

There is also a good one on Lee's Blog and I think I know the problem you are having..
Sand isn't actually used its the "Default" Paint Ground .... Just cleverly manipulated with the vegetation
Hope that helps ..

Check out some of these (a bit older) videos that Scene Commander put together. Also note, that we will be making some new ones for Game Guru in the near future. Additionally; the interface has changed quite a bit, since this video was made. But this should get you started.

Im kind of hoping those videos will be remastered for Game Guru .... Or are you making more from scratch ?

@m2design

Very nice.... I suspect that's not all default though...... Am I wrong ?
If so how

I believe Scene Commander will be making updated ones for Game Guru soon. Those videos will then be relegated to the past.

They are not video, just screen shots.

The buildings and the sand are custom every thing else are standard entities supplied by GameGuru

The how on the sand is a little more complicated... Downloaded a (sand) beach image and then went to the terrainbank and made copy of the lush folder and renamed the copy to "My terrain" and then replaced the path_D.dds and the path_N.dds with new .dds files using the sand images that I had downloaded. NOTE: replacement dds files are only in the "My terrain" folder, DO NOT mess with any thing in the original "LUSH" folder!!!

In the test mode tabbed twice to change the terrain selection to My terrain (Which now appears in the terrain entity selection list).
Return to the editor and selected the " paint ground" from the menu bar and just paint sand where ever. This is the image just to the right of the ramp icon.

Caution!! be careful messing around with files in the terrainbank. you mess up and you might have to reload GameGuru

EDIT: Note the sand image is from CGtextures. This is a free image download site
The dds files are created in paint.net (another free piece of software which is very handy)
NOTE: The paint ground icon will show no visible change but if done right will paint sand rather than the gravel.

thank you for your help, now i got my beach. i didn't realize that the "ground paint" can be used for beach sand. i like that wet sand but this would be too challenging for me at the moment, so i will be making the regular sand as beach sand. thank you very much for the detailed help, this is indeed a very friendly and helpful community

I just couldn't resist one more crack at this...

Maybe we could get Lee to provide us with a real set of beach tools by adding 1 more folder to the main terrainbank folder?

I've been playing with the ramp tool along with smoothing since they came out. They really help. I can almost get Rolfy's waves to look right.

I have noticed that does help a lot.....
My original way was to make the circle as big as possible..... Gently right click so you can just see water ...Then use Level mode on the water to keep it as flat as possible ...Kind of works ok sometimes ....

That's what I used to do, too! Now I make the circle as big as possible, make a hole where I want the deep end to be, as deep as I want it, going too deep is bad!, then I use the level tool and drag it across the length of the beach that I want, then ramp up to the ground starting at one end (Longer the ramp, the less the grade) then I do the same right next to it, then again and again until I reach the end, then use the smoothing tool to smooth out between them (the ramps have to be the same length, obviously, for a straight shoreline). It's a challenge!

Sure! I'm glad you understood my explanation. After I wrote it, I wondered if it actually made any sense. A video would probably have been better!

last night i tried this ramp- tool and i think it is a good idea. i'm planning to make a series of small island shooters to satisfy my obsession with beach and coasts i think my question is answered. i will post a new try here when i got something new. it is a lot of work i must say but i might be good in the end.
