Hi! i have a problem with terrain editing vs entities:
f.e. when i place a bridge and i want to shape a river the bridge sinks into the ground. or i put a building on the ground and i want to model a mountain and i touch the corner of the house the house rises up and the undo does not work, after undo the house is still in the air.
i would like to know how to keep buildings on the ground, to make then "immune" agains terrain editing. i tried inserting entities with pressing "Y" for static but it has no effect and "locking" also doesn't work.

(i have a 3d object, a tunnel system and after placing it on the ground where i want to have it i want to shape a flat area in the height of the highest entrance and it always rises the tunnel model up even when i have the right height)

thanks for your help

Well, sure not the most indicated to answer you, but I 'll try to realize it.
Before place entity you can notice a blank circle around it, so, press "u" and you notice the circle becomes red colored, then you can release/place your entity where yo want to do.
Please, make this before place entity.

Personally, I prefer modeled terrain/mountains, before place entities.

What I do:
Using your example, I place the bridge where I want to, after with the tool for make ground, I market the zone around it, after I leave the bridge and make the river, accordingly with the bridge size, when I done, then I place the bridge.

3COM is right, do the terrain editing first (river, bank, etc) . Finish by Leveling up the landing spots on each side of the river (where the end of the bridge will go) and make sure that the entity is long enough to span it.

Now place the bridge, somewhere close to the river where it will stay on top of the terrain (you can use the "u" key if you like). Now select the bridge, and select the Properties selection on the widget. The display will fly down to a 3D level around the bridge. Use the wheel on you mouse to move out and away from the bridge, and hold the right mouse button to maneuver the view so you can see the bridge in relation to the place in the river it will be placed.

Using the editor controls move, rotate, and raise or lower the entity (bridge) using the editing keyboard commands (4 arrow keys plus the Page-Up and Page-Down keys to raise of lower). Continue this until the bridge is in the proper place and height. Finally, press the Apply Changes button (lower left) and the bridge is set. The height and location will remain the same regardless of the water below the main section of the bridge.

Hope this helps

yes i already did it this way but i found out sometimes you need to do it the other way. when i can use "U" to fix the object i think my problem might be solved. i thought it was "Y" or "LOCK" but this was wrong
yes, i already tried out PROPERTIES and it was a good tool to work with. but i think you guys already helped me a lot, i'll try this when i'm home, thank you!

currently you can't, hopefully in future the lock (and maybe static) might do this though (@lee?)

I know exactly what you're trying to say, nuncio. I wanted to make a drainage ditch myself, and ran into the same problem. I wanted to "tweak" the terrain, after I had lined up the entities how I wanted. As others have said; it's not an option right now, but it's something that can possibly be looked into, for the future.

Basically; I'd like to see the ability to lock any entity in it's current position/orientation, no matter what is done to the terrain. There's already a lock feature, so it would probably take some coding to add the additional functionality. Thanks for bringing this up. The more requests TGC gets for a feature/tool/tweak; the more chance that it'll be added, at some point.

i tried inserting entities with "U" but this was just auto flattening the area, ruining my city i built :o
i haven't found a way to model the terrain without moving the entities. ok so i'll try to model as much terrain as possible before i place the buildings.

after you're finished with your terrain editing. you could set the house manually back on the ground with the page up/down keys on your keyboard.

select the house
then press the page up/down key (die bild tasten mit den pfeilen, rechts neben return)

yes, i'm getting along with this but it would be easier to lock the objects. sometimes it's annoying. yesterday i wanted to place a bridge and when i was finished i saw that the river was a little too deep. there it would have been easier to just raise the terain but i had to take away the bridge, raise the terrain and then put it back and so on
maybe this would be an option for next releases?

A lock which remains locked till you unlock it, is my understanding of the word 'Lock' . ... It's a pretty bad oversight which should have been fixed.
