I have commented on this subject before. While the terrain system is good, the problems arise when we use the Raise and Lower terrain tool to create a hill. While the base terrain looks very natural, the hills we create ourselves look perfectly round and unnatural, particularly when they are viewed together.
I have worked with other terrain generators with similar capabilities. All of them use a static tool (or setting) which provides random movement to the terrain, so that a perfectly rounded hill, now looks more natural. The new slope and blending tools are very good. I would suggest taking the blending tool, and use it to apply static to the terrain using the right mouse button, which currently does not seem to do anything when using this tool.
