No the map size cannot be resized, if you need a smaller map just don't use all of it.

Sure, I know that but no mater how many surface I use from map, the software still use a lot of memory to show all map polygons.
For this reason I need a smallest map.

You must use the flat terrain option or the super-flat terrain option. It will reduce your poly count by a lot.

super flat terrain stops you from being able to make rivers lakes and such though aswell as hills I thought.
it might be better to just remove the terrain not being used by turning it into water I would of thought? like an island surrounded by water for example ?
not 100% if it makes much difference but I do that sometimes on random terrains. just cut away and sink the terrain that would not be seen ect.

Yes, I use the super flat terrain "superflatterrain=0.8999999940395" in the setup.ini file.
With this setting I really can use all terrain functions without problems.

Using "superflatterrain=0.8999999940395" in the setup.ini file, because it's a little less like "superflatterrain=1" , you can use the terrain tools without problems.
