After playing around with ambience and surface levels, as per Lee's suggestion, I got normal maps to display, but when I tried an entity I'm working on, I noticed that the black surface doesn't display the normal map at all. The image on the left is from v1.0085, the right hand image is from v1.009. The underside of the abdomen shows some detail, so I know that something is working - just not on the black surface. If anyone has figured out a combination of sliders that gets the normal maps to display correctly, I love to know what they are.

What does your normal map look like?

Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3, Intel Core i7 2600K, 16GB Corsair DDR3, EVGA GTX 970 SC, Win7 Pro 64-bit SP1, Primary monitor @ 1920x1080, secondary monitor @ 1024x1280

Like this. I changed it to jpeg to display in the forum, but it's a DDS file. Ignore the weird banded parts - Substance Painter does that to fill in the gaps between UV elements.

Edit: for what it's worth, the grooves show up clearly in the v1.0085 editor too (when you right click on an entity to bring up it's properties)
