I have purchased some premade 3rd party models that dont have .x files. There are .obj s, and fxb s, ect. But no .x. What is the easiest/ cheapest way for me to convert these?

Hey buddy,

I don't know what you mean by cheap, but Ultimate Unwrap Pro is my choice, and it's only $60 (US)

For me the easiest (and cheapest) import/export option was Blender.

I think you have to get an extension or something for Direct X exporting though (also free).

Whichever option you go with, just note that you'll need to make sure the textures and whatnot are named appropriately for Reloaded.

Keep in mid that not all Direct X files are the same, and not all of them will work in Reloaded. I ran across a program called MilkShape which is a wizard at importing and exporting 3D files. It is also a pretty complete modeling program in itself.

You usually have three issues here. One, to get the model into an acceptable .X format, two, the conversion of the textures to the _d.dds format used by Reloaded, and three, the reapplication of the textures to the model using the DDS format.

I've had success in taking non DDS texture files, converting them in Gimp or Photoshop to DDS, and then reattaching them to the model in MilkShape. Once completed the model can be exported from MilkShape as an acceptable .X file. With these completed all you need is an FPE file to get the model into Reloaded. MilkShape is about $25 as I recall.

Good Luck

Has anyone had any success converting .c4d files to .x and importing them into FPS? There are a lot of free models out there in this format, but I can't find software to convert them, and FPS can't import them. Any ideas (apart from buying Cinema 4d with conversion plug-ins)?
