Hi all,

I finally have my computer back and would like to start contributing to the community however I need some assistance.

I love using sketchup and would much rather build entities in sketchup instead of Blender, are there any tutorials here that can assist with a step by step process of:

exporting the sketchup file
Creating the fpe

and create any other file needed to load the entity into the entitybank like thumb nail preview or anything else required. I know a lot of people here spend a lot of time contributing to the community already and me asking for a tutorial is adding to the list and coffee bill.

I am happy to give away copies of some of the files I create in return, help on current projects (once I am skilled enough) and so on to give something back.

I currently draw a lot of homes anyway with my shipping container home company so I can already draw, just need to know how to prep the files for FPS.

I saw there is a FAQ and Tutorial section on the forum however it doesn't allow me access to it. If there is something on here please point me in that direction, if there isn't even a quick word document explaining the process would be great.

Thanks all and I hope to give back to the community soon.

Cheers,

Brad

Hi Brad,

I'm not familiar with how Sketchup works, but, I know from reading a few posts about it, that it can be a bit fiddly to get the exported model to work properly.

I am a Blender man myself and have created a few tutorial videos that take you from the very basics of installing the program, to exporting a completed model, fully textured. I would advise looking at a different modelling program, such as Blender, or Milkshape, or 3DS Max (if you have the money for it), as these are known to work well for game ready assets.

I am sorry I can't be of more help.

Cheers

Jay.

To export models in directx must have the plugin xExporter.rb

If you want to create the file .fpe, you should copy it from a static entity

You must then create a file in .bmp format 64x64 entity you created

You must create the texture format .dds with the rule "po2" (power of 2), or 512x512 - 1024x1024 - 2048x2048 etc. The textures are diffuse - normal and specular.

For example mymodel_D.dds (spread) mymodel_N.dds (normal) mymodel_S (specular). However in the installation folder fpscr there's a little tutorial in pdf format. I specialize in sketchup, I can give you some advice, but you can find many tutorials on youtube for sketchup. You just have to be patient and try, try and try again.

I attach the plugin for sketchup. You have to move it to the folder plugins sketchup

Forgive my english

The software I use? ... Autocad, sketchup, Spazio3D, pconplanner, Kerkythea, wings3d, paint.net.

Thanks Bisella and unfamillia,

I have exported the house image from sketchup using the plugin you gave me Bisella and have the .x file.

I have also loaded the same model into Blender and exported it as a .x file. At the moment I have all these texture files in jpg and I read somewhere that dds or tga is required. I converted all jpg to tga so now have multiple tga files also.

When I use the entity workshop v2 and load the x file it only shows one wall. The FPE file I copied from a working house (green house) and edited it. Still not able to get it to load in FPS. There must be something very silly I am missing.

I have attached the files in this post however if it didn't upload correctly they can also be found here:

Now I understand. Fpscr not support multi texture.
You must create a unique texture and apply it to the model with UVMap of sketchup
Just as it is now will never work

Multi texture does work in Test mode.....My feeling is the model is to small in size......It doesn't feel right...

If the .X model is ok it should show in reloaded even if its just black ?

But its only 10k and doesn't show ?

Thanks for that, I can see where you are coming from with the texture as I have managed to load a entity in the past and it just came up black. Further playing around and I can see that there is a very small image in the map builder, so I will scale it up.

I built the house to scale in sketchup, I believe the height was around 5 meters. Is there a way I can keep the scale or should I be building models much larger?

I appreciate all your assistance and time with this, I know you are busy. Hopefully I can have this sorted and get some experience up and help with some of the questions on here. Until then I am the annoying newbie lol.

When you start Sketch Up you have a person as a guide to size you may have noticed......I actually find that pretty accurate to the scale in Reloaded...

Hey Sync,

I use standard house dimensions when building the models, if I leave the person guide there the house is to scale so the dimensions I am drawing isn't an issue.
Drawing the model isn't an issue, if I draw in sketchup or Blender my issue is still the same.

Getting all the files into FPS is my issue, the files I uploaded are from sketchup and the second lot of files are from blender. It appears the textures are my issue. How does everyone sort out the textures in Blender to get the DDS file?

you must edit the fpe file. ---> collisionmode = 1
The software I use? ... Autocad, sketchup, Spazio3D, pconplanner, Kerkythea, wings3d, paint.net, torque3d, AxixGameFactory, PD particles.
