I recently created a set of four 4048 x 4048 panels to represent several city blocks of pavement and road markings (see images). When all are laid together I have the basic roadway layout for several city blocks. The panels are a simple textured cube 10 units high.

I purchased the new city pack and attempted to use the buildings in the pack with my roadway panels. However, when the buildings are put in place over the top of the panels the panel appears to be depressed so that the basic ground shows around the outside of the building (see images)

Are there settings that can eliminate this and get the buildings to lay properly over the top of the under panels, or is there a better way to do this?

sometimes all it takes is to flatten the area after the building is put down (the best way to flatten is to find a spot where the terrain is not showing through and have the editor remember that height), or you could press u b4 the building is put down this might help as it stops the building doing stuff to the terrain i have been told.. as some buildings create a flat terrain to sit on, maybe this is the problem?.
there is another way but you might not like it.. as it requires you to turn the terrain off completely f11 settings

hope the 1st option of flattening is the best help m8

Thanks Almightyhood

I tried the "U" key before dropping the buildings into place, and no more problem. I had tried the leveling tool but it did not work they way I hoped. I have more experimentation to do but this seems promising. Now I can make a notation in the FAQs as to what the Auto-Flattening is used for.

Thanks again

You should have some time over the next couple days; here comes Hurricane Simon! Lay out the sandbags, seal yourself indoors and hunker down at the keyboard!

Most buildings and some items have an auto flatten feature, pressing U before placing them will prevent auto flatten. You can tell if auto flatten is on as the shroud will be a reddy/green rather than red or green.

It should be a different colour. I often miss it and create a nice hump in my scene I didn't want and undo will not recover. Something glaring, so as to warn you this is in flatten mode! Personally I would prefer it NOT to default to flat mode unless I press the key for it. I find it more annoying than useful.

I agree with dvader here it is more of an annoyance then benefit and maybe a button that highlights in the main toolbar when auto flatten is active so we could toggle it on and off there instead of everything on keyboard shortcuts that no one seems to know about

I hope there will be some sort of (floating?) info panel when editing telling you info like if auto flatten is on, if the spray tool is active, ongoing memory usage, number of static items in level, number of dynamic objects in level, total number of items in the level....
