I agree. that is the main Issue I am having with my new stuff as well. I had to do the textures a bit differently on mine, to get them to look right. And not sure how to go about it, I'd hate to get a whole lot done, then have to go back, and redo all the textures to adapt to the new lighting, which I'm sure will come soon. (fingers crossed).
I like your work a lot so far. I love the fact that there are some really good Sci-fi packs in the works right now from some of the folks here.
And stuff is going to get better as time goes on.

Something I have always found useful when doing Sci-fi, is to take a little time, and build yourself a few "Greeble" sets of meshes. You can then re-use the parts in various combinations to make new stuff without having to build similar stuff over and over. Here's an example:
