Hey forumknights! After a brief look around at the store and a quick thread, I've started to build amazingly awesome, super exclusive media for FPSCR. This'll be my wip thread where you'll get to see what I'm working on and give comments or suggestion on the direction I take media. Along with posting completed store media, I'll also be posting free stuff as I go along, because free is awesome.

Here's my first wip and I'm excited about this because it'll be the base to many models to come...oh and I'll be realesing it free to the community when completed, fully textured, plus shader maps and skeleton rig.

[WIP 001: FPS Hand]

Lowpoly version is completed and uvmapped. Sculpted mesh in underway. Plan to complete it either today or tomorrow, than start on the diffuse map.

Crits, comments always welcomed.

Well sorry guys! Just kidding. I'll adjust that thumb size...though a bit disconcerting since it's modeled after my own hand....

Thanks! You seemed to jump out of the shadows too, well I haven't been on these new forums much until recently.

A second examination reveals my thumb does come up a little more, so it turns out I'm not a mutant. Phew!

Started to design the first weapon, Sci-Fi Kinetic Phase Pistol. Infinite ammo weapon that can shoot two phase energy rounds per charge. Once the charge is spent the bottom portion of the barrel section snaps down, allowing for the wielder to rotate it back in place creating a kinetic charge.

Edit: Updated design sketch.

Small update. This'll be my first finished sculpt. Still needs some work and adjusting, but it's getting there.

Cheers!

Thanks guys! I think I'm done with the sculpt. I got enough detail to get some good normals from. Next to fix the mesh and UV map for the low poly hand so it fits with the sculpt.

Juggling probably 10 different projects at the moment, but I might just get this hand completed today!

So this is just a hand and forearm? There's not going to be a full character attached to it?

Yup! The base mesh was built in TS. Though I will admit I've been learning Blender and might make a switch over. But until now, all the base and low poly meshes will be built in TS as I can work extremely fast in that program.

This model is for weapons, so people have a ready to use hand to rig their own models. I'll be building a character for the next one after I finish the pistol. Don't worry, I'll get you some awesome full characters.

Hey good idea, I can make a female variation too. Just a matter of making the sculpt softer looking. Maybe longer fingers. I'll probably save that for after the Pistol.

Alright. Got the hand UV finally finished and baked a nice little normal map. Don't mind the lines, I'll fix those during rigging. Just verts that need welded.

And a look at the uvmap:

Wow this is really looking good. It's quite a complex model as-well i'm still trying to master square things haha!. And any weapon is a good weapon especially since the sci armory is lacking in comparison to modern day. So it will be very interesting to see a completed model.

Thanks.

Been busy, and not busy lately. Finally getting some time to try and get some new media going for FPSCR. Got three items uploaded to the store. Once I get a few more props made, I'll finish up the hands and maybe a weapon.

Here's some screens of what you can get now:

Thanks. Got a wooden stool built and uploaded to the store, waiting approval. Easy model done today, will start adding some more tomorrow. Plan to do an entire fantasy series, maybe do a fantasy pack, similar style to Elder Scrolls.

Than what I really need to do is find an animated flame sprite, or make one for those candles. Wish you could have an object be compiled together with a entity, animated particle and animated light. So you don't have to build a candle for every one you put out that you want lit. Hopefully that becomes an option later on with FPSCR.

I feel like I'm talking to myself.

Got some soul shards created. Thinking about making two more variations, one that's a bit transparent and more reflective and another that has an illumination map so it can be used as a light source.

Awaiting store approval on these.

I've made roughly 70 sketches of items I'd like to build for this theme. So far I've been doing about one a day. Reminds me of the good ol' days with my 100m in 100d thread.

I really like this theme! Can't wait till Reloaded starts expanding on in-door constructing and decent in door lighting so we can really make use of these types of models.

Your models always look good. I miss the 100m in 100d challenges you used to set yourself! I have been meaning to do something similar, with a hope that it brings out a few good models!

The whole fantasy theme isn't really my forté, I have never tried to delve into it with modelling; but, I truly admire the work that goes into these models!

I really like the soul shards! Great excuse for a light source. You could put them all over your level and never have to worry about explaining, where that light is coming from! Perfect!

I also like the tilt shift effect you have going on in the images. Nice presentation.

Cheers

Jay.

Me too, can't wait to get some really nice indoor sections made. Lighting isn't too bad atm, can't really do indoor because everything looks weird. But I'm able to get some good studio style lighting to take screenshots of the media. Only takes a few hours to get it just right. I'm hoping in a future update we'll be able to edit lights in preview mode to make it easier to light scenes.

It's funny because I'm kinda unofficially doing that now. I've been churning out a model every day for a week now, not everyone has been uploaded, but at least I've been doing one a day. Go for it, it's a fun project!

Fantasy is easy, just make everything look like it was hand made in wood metal and leather.

Alright, after some debating, I decided to convert Model Pack 59, Graveyard, to FPSCR. Here's model one! Awaiting store approval.

Original 2009 FPSC Classic Version:

New ultimate 2014 FPSC Reloaded Version:

Changes made:

* increased texture sizes from 512 to 1024

* new detailed diffuse map

* new detailed specular map

* new sculpted high poly mesh and normal map bake

*3 variations; normal, leaned against an object, lean over ledge

*body is now proper human size!

Coffin is next.

Got some new inspiration! Bought a board game a few days ago called Arkham Horror, based on H.P. Lovecraft. It' s an amazing game!

So the plan is to make some crazy creatures in the Lovecraft style. First one is a ground tentacle. These buggers pop out of the ground and when you get too close, try to snap you in two. Though it'd make a cool stationary enemy.

Here's the first sculpt, needs a few more details and than I can start on the lp version.

Noooooooo, I've lost my powers!

Seriously though, I think this would be a fun weapon that shoots lightning bullets.

With the new version of GameGuru Iim starting to go back over my media finally and finish up some new projects. I've been seriously busy lately with work and personal projects but I'm getting back on track.

Another look at the hammer. Think I'll throw it into sculptris next and give it some nice worn damage before rendering out a normal map for a low poly version. Should be interesting.

I really like the hammer. Like the Wolf said, the textures are great.

Are you still working on the tentacle model? I liked the sculpt of that and was curious to see if you had retopologised it?

Cheers

Jay.

not necessarily, i can make good work by 3dcrafter and other programs, many programs can get the same effect if you know how, complex yes at times, but damn sight cheaper. but you can get good models and optimised if you know how to shape, spends a bit of time and make templates along the way and as to textures, vey good, looks high poly but spot on, i can do stuff with that detail. i am not saying i am as good as jl as he is exceptional. but i am saying you don't need to have the 2 mentioned to achieve.
