I was just thinking, someone should get a youtuber like Pewdiepie or Markiplier to do a lets play of 'the escape'. It would get lots of exposure for the engine and they already do lets plays of FPSC classic games.

Why not you be that someone? Your idea after all.

Pewdiepie is the closest thing youtube has to an a-list celebrity and contacting him is extremely difficult. If TGC contacted him directly or if everyone swamped his facebook page with demands to play the escape its the only way he would pay attention.

You never know until you try. I've talked to people on the phone such as Richard Hatch of BSG and Tim Russ of Star Trek just by giving it a simple try. You never know who is going to respond to a request from anyone.

I have sent him a message on facebook, but i will not hold my breath that he will read it, let alone reply. You guys should leave him messages on his facebook. If Pewdiepie showcases FPSCR on his channel, TGC will make enough money to make this engine rival the best out there.

Sorry, I don't have any of the social media accounts. I find it useless to have imaginary friends. The doc told me I was right lol

You wouldn't want one the big 'YouTubers' to play a demo from an unfinished engine! This will only attract negative responses. (in my opinion)

The best feedback from one of those guys would come a little later down the line when one of the talented community actually release one of their creations. Look at Science Boys WIP! Or one of the levels from the competition! Some thing like that would be able to demo the engine much better.

Now, don't take this as me slating the demo made by the TGC guys, I'm not doing that at all. However, that demo was designed with one purpose in mind; to show off new and current features of the engine; whereas, the community members are more focused on game play and level design to showcase there actual games.

Anyway, these are just my opinions.

Cheers

Jay.

point taken but if we can get the exposure relatively early into development then it means more cash can be invested into the engine development which will benefit all of us.

That was really my original reason.

Maybe I don't understand the mechanics you are referring to all too well ?

Guys like Pewdiepie are playing games, not creating games.

tgc earn their Money by giving their best to produce game creation Software.

How would tgc profit from pewdiepie playing a demo game or even a full game ?

I've never heard one of the "let's play"ers exult "ooohhh I'm soooo glad that this game has been created with engine X rather then engine Y!", whereas statements like "why the hell did the creators opt for this rather retarded engine U instead of V" are not unheard of, especially, when errors and dysfunctionalities are obvious - which would be unavoidable with beta software.

yrkoon, I haven't the slightest idea who Pewdiepie is, and I'm not even going to bother to look him up. At least not tonight, anyway. I get the impression he demos/plays games on YouTube. I've run across many others like that. I think tommy's reasoning is that if this guy is popular among gamers, there is going to be a pretty good percentage of them that are not only interested in playing, but in creating games. I would agree with him, as the thought makes me not feel so alone! LOL! Look at the forum members here! They pretty much all fit into that crowd, else they wouldn't be here! As far as engine X vs. engine Y, there is a lot of discussion/comparisons in these parts about them. Creators do care! But in the end, I agree with unfamilia, an unfinished product is going to impress no one, and invite criticism where none is due, as it is unfinished.

To be honest I don't think The Escape is the best example of what Reloaded is capable of. I think it better serves as a good example of what someone could create in Reloaded. But as a "game" I don't think its something you'd want to promote via a Lets Play channel.

And that is the problem, the way I see it. It simply won't work the other way round.

Quote: "As far as engine X vs. engine Y, there is a lot of discussion/comparisons in these parts about them. "

Guess you missed my point: those guys will hardly comment on the quality of an engine unless they think it is substandard, and their audience will tend to react way sharper in that respect.

Exactly. How many creators will the product attract in its current state, with at least dozens -if not hundreds - of scoffing pubescents scoffing at it ?

We do have plans for promoting Reloaded via several YouTubers, but currently don't feel that we are ready to do that. This will most likely be after V1009, when the engine will contain a lot more solid core features.

Just a thought, SC: surely, a "Let's Play" Video will attract People in the first place.
But wouldn't it be useful to pair it with a "Let's create" Video showing how the exact same game is being created that is being shown in the "Let's Play" Vid ?

Of course, the "Let's create" video better be a "Let's re-create" Video, an ex-post version of the creation process, with the actual game already finished and all assets designed and in place, because we all here know how tedious and repetitive it is to bring a game into ist final shape; no-one will have the patience to keep watching the real creation process.

i think this would be the best way to go - give people a real understanding of how much power you have and how easy it is - although waiting for some more "flashy" features would be best

We came to the same conclusions once we released The Escape. Users will review the demo as a finished game and waste no time comparing it to the last bunch of FPS games they played, usually from game studios sporting hundreds of developers and insane budgets. We need to put the 'creative tool' first and the 'game' second in order to show what the product is really about, and any ideas on how we might do that will be most welcome. In the meantime I will be improving the demo to respond to some of the more glaring issues, and ones that directly align with existing work on the new V1.009 build.
