Fairly self explanatory this one, I don't play many fps games, but every third person one I've played has a cover system. Some of the enemies 'peek' around things, and I think we have cover markers for enemies soon going by Lee's blog, so it would be good to have a cover mechanic for the player as well. Thoughts?

it's first person not third so wouldnt really work yet but once third person gets added sure
maybe we could just get some "lean" control for now which would do the job

True, I don't do a lot of FPS gaming myself so not sure of the mechanics, but I think lean is the sort of thing, just to be able to shoot from cover, etc.

Not sure if I follow whats meant exactly but I thought that enemies already are set up to hide, take cover, crouch behind, peek around and shoot out from behind, jump over objects and so on, though much of that is not yet implemented in the default scripts and activated by any and the engine by default as yet. The animations for those things are built into the characters I believe.

The player should be able to peek left and right too around objects to shoot though I am not sure if that's implemented yet or what the keys are for that as I had never really used peek even in Classic where it was supported for the player. Someone I am sure would know.

Far Cry 3, F.E.A.R. 3, and Red Orchestra 2 each had a cover system and are first person. Never played RO2, but the cover systems in FC3 and FEAR 3 worked quite well. Far Cry 3 was especially well implemented in my opinion.

V1008 will have a functioning cover system for characters. You can see some of it in action in The Escape demo. We will be expanding on this as AI improvements are made. The player can use cover simply by crouching behind things (or my favourite, running away!). Peek was removed by public consent if I recall, it was part of FPSC Classic, but didn't even make it into the first beta of Reloaded. Of course, if current thinking is that it should be an option, we will of course consider it.

Peek or a lean function would be a great improvement but I dont think its needed at this time.

Here is a few things that would compliment game play in the near future.
Melee
Hand weapons.
Max weapons. (can only hold 2 weapons at one time) Might be scriptable but Im not a scripter.
Lean.
Prone/Crawl.

Peeking like in COD-Ghost would be awesome.

What are the general thoughts for users on peeking being reintroduced, and how do you all see it functioning?

I remember FPS Classic had peeking though it was more like shifting the camera to the right and left rather than a rounded shift.
