I whipped up a logo for my project this morning. I might tweak it some more, but this is it for now.

No, I don't think its bad at all. It just looks as though you have made it in one of those logo creator tools. You type in your text and it shows you options to choose from.

You are a very talented coder and I design graphics, logos, websites and make models. We are two very different minds, but, we can always offer to help one another The offer is there if you are interested mate.

To be honest, I think people will be more interested in the project than the logo.

I am more interested in the project, but, I am in the competition! Haha. Care to share some trade secrets with the enemy?

Cheers

Well, I didn't do it with an automatic logo generator, but I did put it together rather quickly. I just used photoshop and enabled and tweaked various effects. I plan to make it a bit better. But you're right. I'm no graphic artist. I'll make you a deal. If you design me an awesome logo that I really really like and want to use then I'll let you play with my alpha test. But you'll have to agree not to use it for your own entry. What do you say?

That sounds like an offer I can't refuse! I promise (in writing no less) that, if I do get a chance to look at your project, I will not use it nor any part of it or anything relating to it in my entry. Mine is pretty much done to be fair, I am just waiting for a couple of the newer features to be added in and then I can start to polish things.

I will get cracking on a logo for you now and post it up later.

Cheers

I have just been reading through the notes for Omega Core! Holy amazeballs! You have done something completely amazing there mate! As you already know, I'm no coder, but, even I understand the sheer power you have unlocked there! Truly great work.

I am going to use it all over my competition entry! I am going to change all of my scripts to use this now and my entry will win because of this!

Only kidding. I'm not actually going to try this until the comp is over, purely, so I don't get tempted to slip something in!

Great work buddy.

Cheers

I would really want to test this, but, as I said, I would be scared that I would want to use it!

So, until after the comp, that brilliant little project will have to stay where it is!

Oh, I have thrown something together for you. It's not great, but, it was a simple idea I had.

I was originally going to design it with 'flat design' in mind. (like my logo on the left) But, wasn't sure f you would like that?

Cheers

Jay.

That's pretty cool, Jay. I would like to see a bit more color and some depth to it, but I do like the initial idea. Which logo are you referring to with "flat design"?

I will have another pop at it mate.

Flat design is typically design with no shading, drop shadows or gradients (think windows 8).

The logo I was talking about is my JForth Designs logo.

I was going to do something similar using the Omega symbol and the word core underneath it.

Cheers

Hmmm. I wouldn't mind seeing a flat design look, but I do usually like shading, gradients, etc. Though times are changing and I'd be willing to take a look.

I am temporarily suspending this release and I am revoking the July 21st deadline for open use of this plugin. I may have jumped the gun on this thinking that the FPSC-R contest would be over on the 20th, but that may not be the case I understand now. I will not release this again until the contest deadline has officially come and gone. Sorry for having to do this. If you already have this plugin, please do not distribute it to anyone and if you have it and are in the contest as a finalist I would appreciate that you do not use it for your entry. Thank you.

I looks like the August 3rd deadline for the competition is probably going to remain solid and not waiver. I've been hard at work really knocking out features in Omega Core for my Rescue the Princess entry. And shortly after the contest officially ends, I will release the plugin for public use. It's still in early development, but already adds a lot of value for those creating FPSC-R games who rely on scripting.

For the latest news and screenshots, check out my blog:

I'm soliciting input from the community on what features you want implemented most in Omega Core. This will help me prioritize what work I will be doing on the plugin. If you want to have a say in how Omega Core is developed, please answer the following survey.

This is very generous of you Tom.
I have been wishing for more key input, so thanks!
If I can find the backups of my old arcade machine models, then I am ready to start work on my in game video poker script. Making arcade mini-games is something I wanted to do for a long time and now with Lua and this plugin I should be able to do it. I will have to use the prompt command a lot instead of using HUDs, but maybe we can get them soon too.

It shouldn't be long before I get the GUI working for general use. I'm going to be using some open source code to kickstart it. It's just a matter of getting familiar with the code and plugging it in. The GUI code I have for my game was pretty much a quick hack just to get it functional. As soon as I get some much needed rest from all the work on my contest entry then I'll get the GUI stuff plugged in. I should have something in the next 2 weeks.

First off. You did a really good job.

Is it possible to add a function that adds to the center of the screen at the top window who can read HTML (For advertising) and a small button next to it for the possible to close the window (advertising window).

I think it would be very unique and I'm sure that something like this will not be in any future version of FPSC.

I think a lot of users of FPSC Incentive to build and distribute their games with your core.

Is this possible at all to make???

Currently, there is a challenge with the whole GUI and input system, which makes your request impossible. FPSC-R has direct access to input and thus controls mouse and keyboard input at a low level. This makes it impossible for me to add a cursor in my own GUI layer that you can use for clicking on such a window. Well, I shouldn't say impossible. I could add an independent cursor, but the game would still respond to mouse movement in the usual way. So, you'd be moving a cursor around the screen, but the player in FPSC-R would be looking around the scene the whole time as well. I've requested some functions from Lee that would allow me to block user control from the game, which would then allow me to have a full-blown GUI with cursor. Then this would be possible. That being said, I don't know if I'll implement such an advertising feature at this time. However, once the full GUI system is in place and I have the ability to block user input, you could add the advertising interface yourself.

OK, so now that Omega Core has been out for a while and I know there have been some downloads, has anyone been using it at all? Are any demos or games in the works that utilize its features? I'd be interested in seeing what people are using it for and what their experience has been with using it so far.

I'm not sure exactly what the problem is. The video playback functions are simply called from a script where you want a video to play. For example, you might have a trigger zone and when the player enters that zone then a video plays. So, you would make a modified plrinzone.lua (not sure this is the exact name) that started the video when the player is in the zone. In the documentation example, the code was to play a video when the player presses the E key. That is really not a good real-world example I realize, but it demonstrates some key features such as use of the timer to kill the video player, blocking input during playback, and not trying to play to video repeatedly. You can modify that code in a trigger zone script and have something more useful. I'll consider updating the documentation for the next version.

I'll also be adding the ability to use the FFmpeg video player instead of Windows Media player, which is far better and doesn't require manually timing the playback length.

Quote: "And, likewise, the other functions I did not understand how to use them."

There are some good examples for how to use the other functions in the documentation, but I can help you if you are stuck on something specific. From what you're saying, though, it sounds like you are not an experienced scripter or programmer. If that's the case then you might want to sharpen your programming skills before trying to use the plugin.

I found an error in the omega core. The problem of 3D sound. When the level is greater than 1 script with 3D sound, FPSC crash. Yet I found a bug: if two identical script to put on a level (or more scripts), the sound will begin play many, many times a second (millisecond). I understand the command script 3d sound global. How can I solve these problems?

Can you be more specific on each issue? As I understand you, you are saying that if you have 2 scripts with 3D sounds that FPSCR crashes. Can you give the details of the crash? Is there a specific error? Can you provide the crash log if there is one?

The second issue is not clear to me. Are you saying that you are attaching the same script with 3D sounds to multiple entities? It sounds like maybe you want the same sounds to be played for multiple entities. I'm not sure how Omega Core will behave in that case, but you definitely want to make sure your script is written properly to handle multiple entities even aside from the 3D sound issue. That alone could cause problems. For example, if your script has local variables for each entity then they need to be arrays and assigned individually to each entity's e value. The same would apply to the 3D sounds. That may solve your problem. If not, maybe I can take a look on my end. You would need to send me a sample project zipped up so I can try it out.

All right. I will try to explain the problem in detail.

(1) For example, I have two lakes at my level. I have a script (OmegaKore) with 3D sound. The script works correctly. Now I add a script to the second lake. Run the test level. Loading may break off at "Loading physics" and open the MAP-Editor. The second variant of the problem. The level is loaded, but instead of two 3D sounds (from different places) will be heard cod and clips. And after a few seconds the game freezes.

(2) I have used your script (from your video) for the two entities - the problem (1) arises again.

(3) I want to write a script to play 3d sound entities in their area. I want to place some of these 3D sounds on my level.

Can you show me the script attached to each lake? It might help me figure out the problem. I think this is probably just a small issue that can be resolved quickly.

I decided to go ahead and try this out with my own experiment. I created a script for my firepit and attached a 3D fire sound to it with a firepit.lua script. And although I am definitely creating 2 distinct sound handles with my scripts, I am seeing the issue where the sound is all choppy as you have said. So, I can confirm there is an issue. I'll look into this and see if I can figure out a fix. I am not sure off the top of my head why this would cause such a problem.
