Hi all. This is just something silly I put together when testing a new model I made in Blender. Is it an illusion or a weird bug? I've watched the video a few times and it seems slightly different each time! Sometimes they seem to follow you sometimes they seem okay. let me know what you think!

Also, in case anyone is interested in what the competition entries were like and haven't seen any yet. Heres a link to a few I have played so far.

If you made an entry and fancy me trying, it let me know!

Just say no to drugs. I have no clue what you are trying to show here. . . . They look the same to me all the time irregardless of what ever your doing.

I am a very blunt person. I have NO filters in communication. I say exactly what I think and feel. If you think im being abrasive, its probably a personal problem because usually, Im not.

The outside of the model is culled so you can see the inside part, but not the outside part. That's it.

@ Imchasinyou, lol, If you look at the video picture you can see what I mean. If you look at the video image, both the ashtray on the left and right look both correct, and also on their side. It's an optical illusion caused by the transparent effect I wan

Trust me on this, it's the inside of the model showing and the outside faces being culled. I've seen it a million times.

It could well be as you say. I have had some issues with Blender doing stuff like this of late with basic box models. Or rather Reloaded displaying it like that, in Blender it is fine. I put the video up as a curiosity, just to see how many people see the oddness, or as in the case of imchasinyou, not. Of course any tips on how to stop blender doing this would be appreciated I'm still green with it and use it every so often when I need something I can't find otherwise.

I'll probably be putting this up in the store. It's already looking way better now I have added normal and specular maps. There's a lack of clutter items at present, hence my need to make this, so I may as well do my bit and put it up. Thanks for watching the vid or vids. If you don't see it, watch it again! You should see them standing on their side, or looking like they do at least! If not, great, my objects ready

I'm not much of a Blender person so I can't help you with resolving the issue. It could be that it needs to have a double sided material or the normals could be flipped the wrong way.

I think the normals are flipped. Barring that, both of you could sell those models on eBay and make millions! It's magic!

Might be a culling issue with the transparency setting in model fpe. All the same I would try flipping the normals first to be sure.

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum...

If you are using Blender 2.70, then I know what your issue is.......You are using Blender 2.70.

I would advise jumping back to 2.69 and the X exporter in that version is reliable and tested. I had a number of issues exporting with 2.70, with normals coming out backwards, but, they are correct in the editor.

Cheers

Jay.

EDIT - I have just watched your play-through of my game. I am at work and had to watch it without the sound on unfortunately. Thanks for doing a play-through. Looks like you had fun! haha. I will re-watch it tonight with the sound on. I think you would be pleasantly surprised with the new version. As soon as the comp is over, you can play it again if you want.

Two things, you nearly had it completed. You had the key and just had to make it back to the door on the far side of the Asylum.

Could you remove the download link for the game in your video description please? I don't want it to be open for everyone, just the guys on the forums for now.

@ unfamillia sure, no problem. I 'll remove it asap. More than likely most viewers will be from these parts anyway, at least initially.

I'm using Blender 2.71 at the moment. It would be a shame to go back to 2.69 as it loses several features. Still I

Just a quick note on the normals issue. The method I mention above works, but then the lighting normals are reversed

So, I have finally gone back to 2.69. Trying to get the new one working is just a nightmare, lol. 2.69 works as it should. I hope this issue gets sorted at some point, or Blender just got fairly useless for making game models.

No I was already using that. Same as 2.70 unfortunately. We will just have to hope this is fixed at some point or another.

Cool effect, but I see no glitch or anything to fix.

As said before, it is an optical illusion because of the transparency.

It is a matter of perception.

If you look at it as a glass ashtray sitting on a table, then it looks like one.

The largest light blue circle is the bottom of the ashtray and it is always flat on the table.

Note the holder holes stay in the correct position.

They may help you get the right eye on it.

If you want proof then change it to an oval instead of being perfectly round, and show me what that looks like.

Blender 2.70 gave me big HEADACHES! I almost went insane So I went back to 2.69 and everything worked like a charm again, and my sanity returned as well!

So you say there is still DirectX-export problems with 2.71? No need to bother download it then?

I periodically test the new versions of Blender and have them installed on the same machine, but, I always revert back to 2.69 for exporting my models for Reloaded.

There are some nice new features in the newer versions, but, they are mainly for actual renders over modelling.

Cheers

Jay.
