A video showing something a little different in Reloaded. Smugglers Cove is a self contained little scene

Change YouTube settings to 720p or 1080p to view in HD.

Darn typo, could a mod fix the title to read 'Smugglers cove'

Well done rolfy, nice scene and the water along with the texture work is great. The only thing, it could use some pirates

Got to agree with comment about the sails, the ship is the most wip part of the scene and what your seeing is probably going to be the lowest LOD level.

Could probably furl the sails so it's at anchor to avoid it

The flag being animated does make the sails look real static but I have had the hardest time getting cloth simulation to 'stick' with export from Max, frames after simulation are still dynamic. I have tried baking these down to key frames. tried a point cache modifier....even tried creating key frames from morph targets nothing will export so it's hand done bone animation for now till I get that one worked out.

Would like to get the sails animated and a slight rock to the ship for the swell, eventually hope to have it follow waypoints to complete it.

Some other details come to mind such as a rowboat pulled up on shore with animated seagulls and crabs which scuttle out of the players way when he walks into them.. Lots of additional little things could be added

Nice mate, I added a comment to your clip.
I know of this wave, however any ideas to get it to match a curve in the terrain?

These are newer and a little more complex, they have their own curved edges at the beach head matching the wave texture so will fit with any terrain, the wash in/out is also longer. It is best to create level beach terrain which is ever so slightly lower than the water plane to get that wet sheen where the wave breaks over it, with deeper water behind it you get that cool greenish blue colour as the wave breaks

If you want them to fit your own terrain you simply raise the terrain at the edges to suit.

I will be uploading these waves to the store some time tomorrow.

Awesome, good to hear.
Question more related to the possibility to use around an island terrain scene, not just terrain to water.
I added a example below, its a bit dodgy pic however I'm sure you will see what I mean.

I see, do you want it to wash up and over?, it is something I could possibly look at as an additional design style as I intend to do various waves and build these into a pack eventually once they are all up.

One thing, if the engine will permit... I noticed the water reflection was still on for the foamy tide (not really noticeable though if you're not looking for it). That tide was one of the most impressive aspects of the scene. And I like that you'll be adding more wind effects and the rocking of the ship. I thought the waving flag was a nice touch.

sorry buddy. I should have explained better. And yes good to hear and really good effort and love the pirates you do.
Below is an updated example of what I meant. Birds eye view. the grey boxes are the wave, and the question referred to adapting to different terrain shapes (curves) and if not do you have something up your sleeve to combat non overlapping.
I tried when working with C++ engine yet couldn't get a wave to wrap the terrain.

Cheers, always good to have a chat.

Ok got it

I see what your doing and so long as the curve is not too extreme as to cause a 'pinch' at the centre it would work reasonably well.

Possibly you still get some reflection, it might be controlled some by reducing alpha transparency of the wave texture or toning down the water reflection itself. Or I could simply move them a little further onto the beach What I really want to achieve is decent specular highlights on the wave texture

Hi Rolfy,

Great work as usual. The waves and foam have resulted a really awesome effect in the scene as well.

Cheers,

To show how good Rolfy is, even I don't know how he did that scene (and I wrote the engine) Amazing stuff! Rolfy earned himself an email today, so do let me know if there is anything the engine can do to make your Cove scene even better!

Saw this today, and my jaw nearly fell off. Amazing work my friend.

I love how you achieved such a realistically natural environment. It's not overdone. Not too many trees, or rocks, and laid out very well. 10 stars, and one on the house Bro. I would consider animated sails a thumbs up. It would make the ship really believable, and the scene even more immersive. The new waves are fantastic. Love this!!!

Thanks a lot for all the nice comments guy's, good to see you around here Wolf I purchased your enchanter table just for the heck of it and the fact it's a nice piece of Art.

I am sure all you old classic users enjoy working with Reloaded as much as I do, it's simply light years in advance in all respects and it's not even close to finished yet.

For those who might be interested in what I asked from Lee in my e-mail it is something of use to all. I requested a means of toggling on/off the terrain and water rendering through script, which he tells me has been implemented Super cool and thank you Lee.
