I downloaded the files off TattieBoJangle's 'Free water & illumination' thread, fiddled around a bit (used the displacement map to give waves and made a few curved shapes) and ended up with decent looking flowing water, suitable for creating rapids.

I'd be happy to post the files, I'm just not sure about the protocol for uploading mods of others' work. Also, is there a way to switch off collision detection, to stop you form walking over the water?

Gtox,
you can contact the original creator of the files and ask for permission to release this by directing them to this thread so they can review it. Most likely owners don't mind if permission is asked. But please make sure you get permission always before uploading anyone else's work.

PAIN!

Me = noob

and i love The TGC : )

Here are the files - thanks to TattieBoJangles & Bond for the original files. The 3 .x files use the same textures (water_D and water_N). The other texture file (water_D_line) has some lines on it, and is extremely useful for lining the objects up to avoid unsightly seams. Just rename the water_D file to something else (eg. water_D_orig), change the water_D_line file to water_D, align the objects, then change the names back when you're done.
If anyone knows how to switch off collision, to stop you from walking on the surface of the water, then please let me know.

Some great work there. Awesome job. One suggestion would be to turn on a little transparency so it doesn't look quite so solid. However, it might be tricky to get the engine to work well with that considering the draw order issue. But it's worth a try.

It's not animated - it's an optical illusion caused by the texture moving over the raised parts of the object.

Its just an old shader m8 made to work with reloaded you need to download the shader in free models for it to work .

Yeah, it's just a texture scrolling effect, but very cool. You can actually do animations in shaders though if you really need to. It takes some work, but it can be done.

I gave it some transparency by adding transparency=1 in the fpe file. It's not bad, but I think it's a bit too transparent (the foam should stay opaque, with the darker bits transparent). My GIMP skills are basic, but I'm sure there's a way to create a texture with opaque foam and the rest semi-transparent. I'll give a shot.

Sorry, forgot to include the all-important waterfall2.fx file, which you can get from TattieBoJangle's original thread, or here (it goes into effectbank => reloaded.

Hi Everyone,

I've tried to take this a step further. I've added transparency to the water, it works well above and below the real water plane - if you put it below you will get bullet splashes. See the brief video of it in action in my level here:

(Also darker texture).

Was going to keep my modification secret until after the contest but decided not to

Credit also goes to everyone else who's contributed, (Bond1, TattieBojangle, GTox) sorry if I've missed anyone out. Enjoy

Edit: I'm just not having any luck with these youtube videos am I? Still won't embed.

This should open the video.

Passmark detects an incorrect GPU! I have 2x FirePro D500's 3GB VRAM each
