HEy,

I'm very new to modeling. How do I go about making my normal maps and all of that? I'm using blender and have photoshop if that helps. Thanks!

Well, I did one for Gimp on this very forum.

It covers basics of diffuse, normal and specular maps using Gimp.

I spend the last day for finding out how I can put away that reflections and shine from the textures for the terrain.
It's hard with Gimp, 99% fails, or I'm too stupid.
I tried Mapzone, and the first experiment is great.
