Not sure if this is what its called but you will know what i mean ok the thing i want to know is say one makes a cave or even a house and outside is sunny but inside the cave/house would be dark will there be anyway for it to automatically change without you having to change the entire level as this makes more sense.

I'm sure you'll be able to change the lighting on the fly using scripting sometime down the line I suspect.

I hope so as for me this is a big thing im wondering how the light is set up as it goes through everything so to me all it does is change what you are seeing on screen.

still got some way to go yet few texture problems but will sort it out i was wanting something like this but bigger under my level but will need to figure out how i can get in and out. Now if the terrain would go around the mesh of your model this would make me happy

EDIT: will be cool when i can finally put my animated stuff in like bats ect

I'm jealous. I have a similar type thing planned for my contest level, but not quite so elaborate. I've tried a couple of techniques so far and failed on all counts. Trying something new for my next attempt.

@TattieBoJangle : I cannot promise a whole internal lighting system, but if there is something relatively quick I can provide which will help you with your cave level let me know. I really do like to support this kind of creativity!!

The dynamic lights right now are point lights and when inside / under canopy, you will be in full shadow as the sun light hits whatever is above you. To have your cave dark and the outside light, I decided to take an hour off my former plan to play FALLOUT3 for a few hours and added the following LUA script commands:

SetFogNearest(500)

SetFogDistance(2000)

SetFogRed(32)

SetFogGreen(32)

SetFogBlue(64)

SetAmbienceIntensity(65)

SetAmbienceRed(64)

SetAmbienceGreen(64)

SetAmbienceBlue(128)

SetSurfaceRed(64)

SetSurfaceGreen(64)

SetSurfaceBlue(128)

With these in the next build, you will be able to control your own DAY/NIGHT cycles using scripting, and also fade down/up the global colour values as you enter and leave the cave system, which will allow you to have very bright lighting outside and dark gritty colors in your cave network.

Did you make all the tunnel sections yourself? If so I'd really like to see those make their way into the store or something at some point, they look really good

I see that this is exportable in .x and others, does that mean that once a cave system is built, its an easy import to reloaded?

They have tons of packs ready to go. If I can use the .x to make em work, I'm buying stuff there and building my entity bank. TGC is slow to put stuff out and I'll not get from here what they have there. I recommend the look at their site. I'll give it a go and hopefully get help here if I get stuck!

Hello,

I am quite interested in Dynamic lighting as it certainly would add atmosphere to a scene.
For example a torch is a typical source (or even a flashlight).
I read the Blog entries and learned that texture based lighting is one possible thing, but that would not work if a light source is travelling, would it?

Especially in regard with the Construction Kit I am interested if moving lights are placed inside a building.
E.g. the typical swinging light bulb.

Will this be possible e.g. within buildings made by the Construction Kit?
Using zombies within a building usually needs some eerie lighting. It seems DirectX 9 Lighting lib supports dynamic lighting. But is it possible e.g. to attach it to an moveable object (e.g. player, or e.g. a NPC wielding a flashlight)?
