So as we all know, modeling a descent looking character takes a skilled modeler. A lot of us much prefer to model scenery or simple items.

I see there is already ideas of making a character creator, where you can select different parts and pieces to make unique characters.

But what would make this truely unique, and easy to make 100% unique. Is if you could import static accessories such as hats, masks, backpacks, gun holsters, shields, helmets, knee pads, armour, head camera, glasses, jewellery, to stick to static points on limbs.

So for example;

1. You model, skin and save your 'top hat' in your favourite modeling program.

2. you use FPSCR to import said item in to the character editor.

3. you drag this item across the surface of the character, and click where you want it to be pernamently attached.

4. save character, and play with your truely unique character

Only I feel this is much much much easier then modeling a character from scratch!

Thanks.

Matt

Hi,

We have talked about the possibilty of a character creator in the past, and it's an option still being invesigated. It certainly won't be very soon, but who know what the future will hold .

in the meantime, i would strongly recommend downloading makehuman. It enables you to auto generate anatomically perfect humans and you can even alter the age, gender, race, height and weight. You can even add hair and clothes. It wont be FPSCR ready but it can export to .obj so you can at least make alterations in blender.

I would like TGC staff in particular, to take a look at this software.

What i would ideally like to see is some sort of makehuman style character editor interface integrated into FPSCR so when you have finished generating your character, you can hit the ground running with it, rather than having to rig it from scratch, create new normal and specular maps or writing new lua scripts from scratch.

This would really be great to make games look unique - and not the same character models used over and over by the community. Perhaps FPSC could have some kind of easy-to-use model importer that can import models designed in programs like Makehuman?

Could you at least use this to import a non animated character or will it not even import?

you can import the model fine, thats not an issue. The problem seems to be that when you attempt to import custom models into the FPSCR engine they are behaving strangely and not at all like they are meant to. This seems to even a problem when using characters from FPSC classic for some reason.

This is one of the major bugbears that needs ironed out in a future build and pronto.

Ah, thanks for the makehuman software, I'll look into it now to see if it's suitable for me.

Still, it's a viable option if the FPSCR staff could look into third party tools be made compatible with the FPSCR engine.

After using it for an hour or so, it's good to create a regular human but there is a severe lack of hair and clothing.

@ Dralel

Are you sure you've downloaded the most recent version of makehuman?

The latest build allows you to add not just hair but also clothes.

You will however need to modify it in blender using the proportional editing tool because the c

The one you have is the latest normal release. The link above is for the nightly. When you go to the link there are OSX versions.. windows versions and then debian. Get the windows STABLE zip.

Not saying that is the one tommy8 is talking about but its the LATEST build.

The nightly build was what I downloaded and it ended up as version 1.0.1, which has like only 3 hairstyles... I'll wait in the future for more features.

Well then in that case maybe the nightly lacks the features because it is just a nightly. I would suggest trying the main version. I bet that is your issue.

Nah, that's not it. I downloaded the full regular version then overwrote it with the latest nightly build just now, same amount of content. What am I missing here? :o

Autodesk Character Generator is easier and it's web-based. If FPSC-R added .FBX support then just make a model in ACG and import it into your game.
(Note: ACG doesn't create animations so after import user-defined animations will have to be added).

Mainak does the free version of Autodesk character generator allow export to FPSCR filetypes?

Autodesk products are notoriously expensive.

Yes,it does. Actually, after creating the character you download it.

(Note: Downloading it takes points. If you create a student account on the main Autodesk website, then you get 99999 free points

Currently,I don't think FPSC-R has .FBX support.

I've been trying for months to get Makehuman characters, Daz characters and many others to work with Reloaded. No luck so far.
