Can creators like Henry ham, Dagored & Wizard of Id please create more structures in which we can enter, climb stairs, search rooms and even go on the roof if we want...Love the lighthouse in the reloaded store...I'm either

Even after putting it in Files/entitybank, it still doesn't appear in the editor menu. Advice?

It should appear in menu fine, have you clicked the '+' tab next to the cave menu selection to open the sub folder?

Should I put it in the entity bank as an RAR file?

Open the rar with winrar or winzip and put the 'rolfy cave' folder into your entitybank, it should then be selectable from the editor entity menu for you to use

Rolfy,

Very nice - thanks for this. What modeling software do you use? How do you get it to work with FPSCR? I have yet to get one of my models to work in FPSCR - especially objects you can walk in, on or through.

Thanks for any advice.

Mike

i dont know what software rolfy is using but blender is the free one. Its possibly also worth investing in milkshape, as it will allow you to edit and play around with the stock models. In blender unfortunately there is no way afaik to import .x files.

You need 6 items for your model to work-

the .x file (which is the model itself)

the _D.dds file for your diffuse map

the _N.dds file for your normal map

the _S.dds file for your specular map

the .fpe file for your script

the .bmp file for the entity preview

I use Paint.NET to export the texture maps as it seems to be the only open source program that lets you export to dds out of the box.

put these 6 files in the appropriate folder under your entity library, if you've done it right it should work.

Important note- check all your faces are the right way out otherwise you will have problems. Also if you are using blender ensure you select the model so that it has a yellow outline before you export it to .x. This has tripped up a lot of people including myself.

Thanks so much for sharing this rolfy. It really is difficult to create a cave right now in the beta. I hope you don't mind I use this in my entry for the competition.

Great job Rolfy. I have both of your caves and the first time I went into the huge one I got lost. I'll have to put bread crumbs down next time.

LOL, I downloaded it a couple months ago and got lost, hit escape, and never looked back as the contest was on my mind. I crawled back into it yesterday and got lost again then opened the mesh in another program. Very clever! What I didn't notice upon entering the cave was the immediate drop, which had me running in circles, likely passing the entrance endlessly! (Even yesterday, when I saw the entrance, I still couldn't climb out!) Nice!
