Thanks. That's the bit I'm having trouble with - I'm obviously not understanding how to select a height consistently. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - and I suspect it's my understanding that's to blame.
For example, how do I select a new height after using the tool? If I click on another location it applies the level tool again instead of selecting the new height. I suspect those tools act like a toggle switch but it's hard to tell at the moment which tool is being used and how.
