You've just reminded me of something I'd forgotten.
I'm using a laptop which uses the Nvidia Optimus system with two graphics cards: an Intel HD Graphics 3000 with an Nvidia Geforce GT 630M 1GB. I'd forgotten till now that the default on this system is to use the Intel card. I've just tested FPSC(R) using the Nvidia card option and it does indeed run a bit faster. With the default settings the fps has risen from 4 to 8 (still too slow of course) but with various things turned off the fps has risen from 13 or 14 to 20 or 21 which is playable.
So this is a reminder to those with similar set up to use the "high performance graphics" option. [Please don't ask why I had to be reminded to do this.
