To my surprise looking at the new ordered list on the voting board... I saw these items near the top of the list:

Standalone Multiplayer
Improved Character Creator
Free player app for non GameGuru users


How are these more important than actual editing functions like below?

Water Control
Cut and Paste Grouped Entities
Skybox Control
Multiple grass painting


I don't even know what Free Player app for non Game Guru user means. We can export EXE files and anyone can play them. Is this related to multiplayer? I don't use multiplayer. Multiplayer and the Character Creator are in my opinion, what slowed the development of GG from the start. I'm depressed that I may have to wait another year... as there are hardcoded elements still in the engine that I cannot do workarounds for.

Those are improvements we need. But the ones afterwards that I was hoping for are way out of sight. Its unfortunate for myself. I've hit some roadblocks that I was hoping to be able to solve with the following features of which used to be higher up on the list.

don't worry too much after DX11 the board should be reset like after the EBE

The only one you have to worry about is the top one, once that is started the vote will be reset and all the current top votes will need to choose something else, its unlikely once that many votes are freed up that it will be anywhere near what it is now.

lets not forget the 64bit support. Thats one of the most important things to come...

I just noticed "Unlimited dynamic lights" on the list. Won't that be coming with the DX11 upgrade? If so, there's 849 votes that can go to something else when it gets reset.

Its all irrelevant ... Even the top one ... Once the DX11 is released the red reset button will be pressed
Then the votes start from fresh .... Whilst that's happening Lee will probably be fixing DX11 reports ...
You can view it now as a guide if you like to how the voting may go but it changed drastically to DX11 last time ..
The only person ever to get all his work done by "Friday" was Robinson Crusoe..

I agree Teabone: those suggestions just won't add anything useful to the engine

1+3 should be removed from the board completely imo
1) like multiplayer doesn't work anyhow and will take who knows how long to get working - just another hold up to useful stuff
3) Free player app for non GameGuru users, like just give them the exe if you want them to play your game, otherwise just buy the engine already - it is practically free now....

We shall just have to jump on and vote for useful things when the big red button is pressed!

Hi! I think that "Free player app for non GameGuru users" is just another name for normal multiplayer.
However, multiplayer mode (with support users scripting) could seriously raise the potential of Game-Guru.
But of course, first we need to implement more important things.

i personally think that a decent multiplayer system that can be incorporated with a normal game that you make , will take GameGuru to a next level, in terms of what you can do with GG and not to even mention what it will mean to the bigger picture of the Future of GG.
i am sure we all want people to say and think of Gamuguru as a game engine that can do anything, and as a lot off the gamers out there will tell you, multiplayer games is more fun to play , once the single player game is beaten then what.?
That is then when they start playing your game in multiplayer, over and over again. That make sense.
You can not leave something out that you need for good business.
it just make sense to also include it. That's Good for business...

I can see the attraction of being able to play an MP standalone with someone who does not own GG and it could encourage some that don't own GG to buy it to make their own MP Standalone maps.
You don't really need to worry about AI ... Its all good blasting against real people

My view is that a good implementation of a MP function will broaden the userbase.
It's what people seek in my view, gaming is fun but gaming with friends is so much more fun.
Even more so because friend communities determine their own type of game and how the levels are made.

That's the problem we have. To implement a standalone app for multiplayer Lee has said would be quite quick and easy to do. But it's not worth doing unless multiplayer works well, and at the moment it doesn't, to fix it properly and add all the features needed would be a huge overhaul, and to be honest there's so much missing from the base engine that is far more important than a multiplayer overhaul. In my opinion and I know quite a few people here agree, what we need is to get the base engine and basic needed features working before multiplayer gets an overhaul, if we don't do it that way, any multiplayer work done could be completely undone by changes in the base engine.

Yeah pretty much what I mean - Belidos just said it better.

It sounds like options 1+3 are for the same thing, either way multiplayer does not work. If I remember correctly it was put in quickly - perhaps as an enticement for the steam crowd - before adopting the name Game Guru and being released on Steam.

But it does not work at all (at least for me), and Lee has spent so much time on bells\whistles already. I am not against these things being added, just want core engine\functionality\flexibility added first is all

At the moment Game-Guru is not a 'make the game of your dreams engine', it is simply for the most part just a First Person Shooter engine - still.....

I think this thread kind of confirms things for me. Considering the voting board is a community voting board.

Because the directions are usually unclear and unpredictable here, its hard to gauge in pre-production anything worthwhile. From a developers perspective.

Making a stable Standalone needs a big overhaul in my opinion, more options before that standalone is created, user able to locate missing or not copied over assets etc, is vital now GG is on the up with DX11

I will agree that I've not been able to create a successful standalone export with any of my current projects. I have a lot of sounds and images referenced via script. So they don't end up making their way to the final build. Since i cant actually play anything I export I'm unsure of any bugs there beyond just missing assets from within a script.

@Belidos.

Agree, the focus should be the base engine and needed features for stand alone games.
It's also where my vote goes to after the next reset.

Multiple grass painting will have my vote.

Earthling45, i agree, "multiple grass painting" - this is a very useful thing.
Plus "Sun setting" and changeable in game skybox, and some other things.
Also, it would be great if there were no hard-coded functions left.
It would be great if in time the Game-Guru engine became famous and strong
I hope that soon we will see much of the this list. And after that, I dare to think, we will be able to vote for the multiplayer.

You may have arms with the strength of a gorilla and legs like an elephant, but a weak puny back will make those limbs useless. No point with any work beyond the main engine core until that core is strong. Multi-player for me is something to be added later when the single player engine works a lot better. Also, as it's called Game Guru and not FPS Reloaded I imagine TGC may want to push 3rd person well before multi-player options...

About muliplayer - I have an interesting idea (i hope) and I made ~80% of the map (about a year of work) - but I put it off until better times. When the multiplayer mode is ready.
