As you may have spotted on the voting board, development has been completed on the Player Control Override item and the top voted feature of LUA Commands for all sliders in the TAB TAB view (currently undergoing beta testing). This moved "Volumetric Particle Effects" to the top spot which is now the focus of my development effort.

With these shifts, as of Friday 5PM BST, we have Water Control current the favourite for the next job of work, but as we suggested at the start of the year, the popular opinion is that we should RESET THE VOTES after the top item has been completed, just to keep the requests up to date with current GameGuru developers needs.

https://www.game-guru.com/feature-vote/results

My question to you all (even those that really really want Water Control), are we still good to reset the board and allow a fresh run of votes to determine what the next feature in GameGuru will be? We have time, so please make your comments here and if we get over 75% agreement we will go with the Nuclear Option and perform a full reset. You can also expect choices to change from users as the latest update opens up possibilities that did not exist before, thanks to the Player Control Override work, which was a byproduct of work carried out on the LUA system rather than its place in the charts.

I would be happy with a board reset after every completed item is taken of the top of the list.

I think you should rig up a real big red button and then do a live twitch in which you film yourself hitting the button.

As originally planned a reset is probably the best way each time for absolute fairness.
Better not to deviate from the plan then we all know where we are

I have taken the Nuclear Option - all votes now reset. Best of luck for your chosen next feature!

P.S. Volumetric Particle Effects are now being worked on (along with the mandatory performance and tweaks)

You will certainly get the capability to create those effects. The voting board blurb reads: "Higher quality effects like dust, smoke, sparks etc." but it will involve the creation of a particle rendering system that can fade out the pixel based on depth information so you don't get those classic edges as a decal slices into the scene geometry, and will be triggered both from internal systems and also direct from LUA (as the player control system now lives there). For a taste of things to come, check out the new "ParticlesAddEmitter" command when the build goes public in about a week or so. It was extracted as part of the JetPack mechanism, but as you will see from the parameters you can specify, it gives you the ability to control in detail a smoke emitter. Fire would likely function in a similar way and fog would have a longer particle life, and move across the scene rather than up or down. Have not decided if individual particle control within LUA is reasonable yet, as most modern games run thousands of particles and their behaviors through the GPU for performance and effect (and some even use a physics-like volume to have particle collision for things like smoke billowing out of a building's windows and doors, and not through the roof). You can certainly expect control over the particle emitters, what the particle looks like and the transitions through the life cycle. With this, you can achieve most of the volumetric effects you see in modern games.

Nice!

I've once again slid all of my votes into the rendering system overhaul as it seems the most foundational for getting the myriad of other graphical bits and bobs going without hosing performance.

I beg you, dear Lee, please make a "Day and Night system".
At least the ability to change skybox dynamically in lua. If it does not take long time, of course.
PS. I can gradually reduce the lighting to darkness, and cover it with a black dome with texture. But however, this greatly reduces FPS and looks non-realistic ...

Hi ,
is it just me or IS the A.I. now almost totally non-functional
even compared to before it was worked on.
I cant see to get hardly any of the creatures or characters to attack in a
meaningful way at all ?
Am I alone in this as i didn't SEE any choices for that on the new voting board.
are we considering it now functioning and workable ?

Thx

Dear Synchromesh , i do it.

However, the "cry of the soul" :

It would be nice to finish the basic things first (and which simply to implement): lighting (including day and night), water (swimming), and other small (but important things) just what is present in other engines by default.
This will raise the reviews. I will finally write a positive response with a clear conscience.

And only when all the basic things will work are ok - only then it is possible to work on improvement and beauty of the engine. (imho)

----
PS. If i correctly understood (reading update theme), in the next update we will have full control over the player's parameters? This is great news ! ( in the right side iho ! )

@Tauren : With the next update you will have almost all of the LUA commands necessary to script both night and day AND swimming, as I have moved all the player control logic to a script Now you don't get the above features 'out of the box' but I can guarantee there exists scripting skills in the community to create them, and I think someone has already done versions of them already The new script and extra commands should allow those efforts to attain the same level of functionality you might have got from me had you waited on them to get to the top of the voting board. You could also have a dabble at scripting too, and suggest you play around with implementing the swimming (i.e. prevent the player from dropping below the water line while retaining horizontal movement).
