Browsing several packs, I noticed that there were models that are for sale that are directly straight out of the forester pro program. Which is cool, except that on the post from the author "GrumpyOne" he states:

"Can I sell models made with Forester Pro on the Store?

Yes, if you use your own custom textures, you can do whatever you like with the models."

Yet some of the models on the GG store have textures that are straight from the program (jungle trees pack etc..) and are definitely not custom textures. So I was wondering if that is now being allowed, because heck, I could crank out a hundred models a day if that's the case. If not you guys might want to double check some of the models that are for sale on the store.

Cheers,

I agree with your comments regarding just producing models as is straight from the program. Personally I would always use such programs to produce unique models (in as far as is possible) in both the mesh and the texture and then feel I could only offer them for free to the community never for sale. However can I refer you to my post regarding Medusa. It seems TGC has changed the rules in any case.

That's also a violation of copyright. You can't distribute media that doesn't belong to you, especially not for free.

Always an issue of contention. I use Blender and do everything manually. There's no way I could churn out models anywhere near the speed some manage to do here. I always suspect some auto-magic program may be in use if I see one artist churning out stuff constantly (especially similar stuff) and at an unreasonable rate. Still if these programs exist, people will use them. TGC are the people who have to police this, and I am not sure they really have the time to look into this sort of think in general. If the artist says it is all their own work when submitting, then they are the ones breaking rules, and the book would stop at them in the end.

Yeah Medusa, lol, someone got carried away with that one, some time ago

Please link me to the media that you believe user textures directly from the application and I'll investigate.

As a side note, we no longer accept media created using 3rd Party Generation tools.

I applaud this decision. The store was flooded with carbon copy generated content.

Same here, i've always been a bit baffled by how quick some people are able to whip them out.

If the items alleged to be direct copies of existing store entities are using the same open source texture images for their own dds files, I don't think this forbidden.

Example: if john doe1 uses texture images from "CGtextures" (open source) to create and sell a palm tree in the store, john doe2 has every right to download from "CGtexures the same texture image to use as part of his/her rendition of a palm tree and put it into the store for sale. Both must create an original 3d image file but both can use the same open source texture images.

Please correct me if I am wrong. (won't be the first time.)

No the issue is that they're using the textures that come with the program, which is not allowed by the publisher of the program. I attatched 2 screenshots, one from the program itself, and the other from the store screenshot.

I mean, hey, I'm ok with generators. I think it's not a bad thing that helps modelers get a base model to work with. Also using royalty free textures is cool too, even if they're on several different models that's ok because it's not against the rules I like seeing what people can do using the tools they have for sure.

Link to one of the models:

I believe most of the models in this pack are also using the program default textures. *EDIT* I did see that this was taken down already so no worries. And sorry to have brought this up, was just wondering if the rules had changed. Anyways...happy modeling all, look forward to seeing what you guys do (some of you guys are really amazing at modeling/animating) and am constantly inspired by your creations. Cheers!

Thanks for the clarification. You are right to bring this kind of behavior to the attention of GG. I agree this needs to STOP!

Again thanks for the warning.

mickeyb the artist is changing all the textures, if they are up to standard the new objects will be given to all that have purchased them. If they are not then everyone will be refunded.
