Hey guys,

Someone here can make a funny penguin 3d model for a 3rd person cartoon game for me?

I draw it like below:

I need it to work in gameguru and have funny jumping and movement. If you're interested please tell me how much it will be.

Thx

I'll see what i can do. Not sure how long it will take to finish as i only get time to model in fits and spurts, so might take a little while, plus i'm not that well versed in rigging and animating, but i'll see what i can do for you.

As to giving him ray bans, can you provide a picture of the style you want, there's literally hundreds of styles of ray ban glasses.

@Medmatheus It won't cost you anything, i'm learning new stuff making it, so it's worth doing for me, just give me a mention in the credits if i manage to pull it off for you

@Dave thanks mate, it's not great, i'm still learning this organic stuff, i'm more of a hard surface modeller, but it's fujn, next step after a few tweaks is to rig it, now that's something really outside my comfort zone.

Oh one thing, I'm not sure if it'd make it cooler if he had few hair at top of head, like that draw (Sorry I'm not a good drawner lol)

Having huge issues at the moment, when i put him in the editor he shows up perfectly, but when i go into test mode he's completely black. If i take ischaracter = 1 out of the fpe file and try again he shows up perfectly in the editor and the test game. No idea why, will have to see what it's like on my main pc at home as the laptop i use only has GameGuru 1.4 on it, so it might be that's the issue and it needs updating.

It's nothing to do with the texture, the texture shows perfectly in GaemGuru if i take out the ischaracter line, it's something to do with the character system.

I've also got other issues now, i've rigged it and added a simple animation to test, and when i try to place it in the editor GameGuru crashes and restarts over and over. Working perfectly fine in Unity and UE4, but GameGuru won't have it, just crashes and restarts. It doesn't look like you will get your penguin from me because i'm about to heave my laptop of the roof.

I went for a smoke and came back calmer, and managed to get it working, it's not an issue with gameguru, it's blender and its shoddy .x exporter.

In the end to fix it i exported it from Blender, then imported it into fragmotion, selected everything and exported it as .X and it works fine.

I've been spinning it around on the third person controller without walking animations and with it's wings flapping about, checking it, and it seems ok, if rather odd looking lol.

Next step is to run it through substance painter and give it some proper textures, then i have the really hard part, making some decent animations for it

Quick question, i've been tweaking the model a bit, which head do you prefer? Left or Right?

or you could have both, and make one of your goals to find the lost children

Oh, as an aside, i've rigged the glasses, so a bit of the idle animation might be him taking them off, looking around, then putting them back on, depends on how i feel when i start animating.

@Belidos for head, I prefer Left. Finding a lost children is great to make a levels goal. Like getting gems on first level, finding a children on 2nd level, cooling (killing) a number of suns with a specific weapon on 3rd, and there it goes.

Ohh btw, can it throw snowballs as weapon?

It won't be able to do combat, i don't know how to set that up, and if it did throwing snowballs would be nothing to do with the model, you would have to model it as a weapon, and assign it to the characters. I don't make weapons.

Scrub the previous, i had another smoke break (who'd have thought smoking was a brain enhancing pass time!), and i've for the first time (in the two years i've been trying to work it out) actually worked out how to add a firespot for weapons, and i've added a simple throw animation, so you can just add whatever weapon you like into the hasweapon = field in the fpe file.

I've just tested it with the staff and stones, and they work fine.

Just so you're aware though, third person is very rudimentary, you can fire from standing, and you can fire from walking, but it will only play the throw animation if you are standing still, it's a flaw of the system, i don't know if there's anything (short of the third person controller being redesigned) that will fix it.

So long story slightly less long, you can add a weapon to it, but you will have to get a snowball weapon from someone else as i can't make weapons.

The stone is a little difficult to see in third person, so i would recommend something more visible, I assume from your game video that you have the Easter pack, so i will change it to the Easter weapon (a fireball) so you will be able to see it clearer.

I haven't done the full animation yet, just a pose to show you how he will look at the peak of his jump. He will land by bringing his feet and wings forward and landing in a crouch and standing up, and his glasses will fall back onto his head.

I haven't even started on the actual animations yet, i still need to work out how many frames i need for each animation (19 individual animations are needed for full third person compatibility with a lot of them being reused for multiple functions) to make them sync with the controller, at the moment i'm sitting down looking at Todd the rabbits animations and taking notes of how many frames each set of animations on him uses so i can use that to measure my animations, it's not a quick and easy job, and may be a few weeks before it's ready.

Talking of wings, i know you drew them as wings in the sketch, but i was wondering if you minded if i modelled them as rudimentary arms, with a single thumb and a flat hand? As flattish wings it's a little hard to animate certain actions without causing stretching and scrunching of the mesh, but with an arm it would be easier to avoid that, and give you far better visuals for example throwing the snowballs etc.
