Just bought the T-Rex - it's amazing - I've got a 'Journey to the center of the earth' level going on where it will fit in very well.

Looking forward to the raptors ...

A Triceratops would also be great!

Awesome but I don't think you need to hear the raptor stomping ... He would be pretty stealthy

the volume of the sounds should all be based on distance to the player too so even if you can't find a good sound you can always adjust the modifier to lower the volume of the footsteps (not a given setting but still a simple change if you can read the script).

Very nice work harry, I wish I could model this well!

An interesting and fun fact about dinosaurs, in movies we very commonly see specific dinosaurs together in the same environment, we all remember the famous scene of the t-rex fighting the triceratops, but what many people don't realise is that these dinosaurs wouldn't have even known the others had existed, for example:

Triceratops : Maastrichtian stage of the late Cretaceous Period about 68 million years ago
Tyrannosaurus Rex : Mesozoic Era during the late Cretaceous period about 65 million years ago
Velociraptor : Again in the Cretaceous period, but 75 million years ago

None of these creatures were around when the others were, and not one of them were around in the Jurassic period, which occurred almost 80 million years before any of these walked the earth

Valley of Gwangi It was supposed to be a T-Rex but the modeller actually made an Allosaurus Terrible movie by today's standards but I thought the stop motion stuff was pretty awesome at the time. Not that I was born when it was released but I still loved it as a kid.

That looks awesome Harry, i'm very impressed.

The death doesn't look quite right to me though, given the weight of the creature I would have thought the death would start with a weakening of the limbs, a bit of wavering, and then an almighty thump to the ground as the limbs give out and the balance tips letting the weight kick in. A bit like a tee trunk falling, if you know what I mean. Although saying that, it may just seem that way because there's no sound to accompany it, maybe with a crashing sound it would look right.

The texture on your triceratops is phenomenal! I'm very, very impressed with these. Although, I do have to agree with Belidos' advice on the death animation. A similar style death sequence for this one, and possibly even your other creatures, would be a worthy addition. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic !! .... Incredible Work once again

Its such a pity when they turn to attack its so sudden ( not your fault of course )
But a realistic turn would really make attacks by any animals so much better..
Awesome Fluid animation and waypoint turns .... its just GG lets it down on the turn attack

yes.. when i am ready, with all the dino's i like to make, then i assemble a pack..

Smallg... thank you so much for all your help.. i really appreciate that. without you, all my models(animals) would be just static scenery..
it is Always so nice to see the animals come alive in GG..

And the triceratop is now in the store...

On to a other one.. personally i was thinking on a small one this time .. the compy or so..
i also have a very large one.. the brachio.. but still small problems with the engine.. so that one has to wait.

WOW! Excellent work Harry!!!!!! Will the dinos be scripted in such a way that they will also attack each other? Example: So carnivores would attack herbivores.

not yet, by default they all have the same script to follow waypoints and react to the player only but it's on my already long list of 'todo's along with play fights between the triceratops

Totally rad! They look amazing! Especially having them just grazing there feels very alive.

If I where to give feedback. Having the triceratops have an introduction animation (like letting out a roar or stomping) before attacking the player would add to it I believe! (similar to the egyptian pack or freaks and abominations pack monsters.)

How do you make your textures? they look very lifelike.

Hi Wolf,
Thank you..
Some sort of alert before attacking is indeed a good idea.... i will look into that...

Quote: "How do you make your textures? they look very lifelike. "

I use photoshop to make and combine texture from crocodiles\elepanht or rhino's or lizards etc
then i use zbrush(free one) and substance painter . with projection mapping and painting.

I was going to buy substance painter a while back, so I tried the demo first, but I could not get it to export texture in the right way for GameGuru, whatever export setting I tried it churned out half a dozen textures that had a bit here and a bit there and didn't seem to match the UV.

I don't suppose you'd be able to give me some tips on how to export from substance painter to use in GameGuru would you?

i make sure that i export it in my 3d program to obj with uv layout
import the mesh with the setting x file.
paint and when i am ready.
I just export all layers, with png format.
That i convert in photoshop to dds.
so no special tricks

OK, bui had no option for choosing image type, it just asks what type of format to export them, it offers stuff likely unity 4, unity 5, etc. None if them seem to give med n s textures, its broken down into different textures for different shader types and none of them seem to correspond to the models UV.

You do know that the latest evidence points to most dinos being fluffy don't you?

Especially T-rex, covered from head to tail with down like a chick.

Seriously though I have a question for you, how easy is it to animate to an existing static model? I ask this because I have no modelling skills whatsoever but I have a program that takes multiple images of an object and turns then into 3d model. Cameras I have aplenty and a home studio and a ton of small highly detailed model animals so I was wondering if I produced some models using it could they then be animated?

I also would like to suggest a 'standard' set of animations, as many as possible, shared by all the animals. Similar to the standard set of 'soldier' animations. That way I could provide a set of Lua scripts which could be applied to any animal and provide 'realistic' behaviour patterns. I already have Lua scripts written that give flocking or herding behaviour, for example for deer, cows or sheep. Obviously predators would need a different set of scripts but a lot of the behaviour is generic and can be shared but that only works if each animals animations have the same range of frames.

Been there, done that, got all the T-Shirts!

hi. AmenMoses
well animating a staticmodel is the same as what i am doing.. i first make the model, then give it some bones and animate it..
how diificult or time it takes, depends on the animal how it walks run etc... but it is possible...

second:
give the animals the same animation frames or range in frames is possible, but then you change the animal behaviour like walking and running.
Compare a chicken to a large one.. elephant.. or larger a brachiosaurus..
The walk sequence is very different from each other. the frames for a large animal slowly walking is around the 40- 80 frames.
a chicken's animation frames are more in the 15 to 25. sequence... so if you give them the same framecount, it would be very awkward to see them walking.

edit: maybe if you give all animals lets say 60 frames.. then i have to animate the chicken with more steps then a large one..
if thats what you meaning...
