I have a bug report that I cannot reproduce, but might be related to Windows 10. Specifically, can someone with Windows 10 go through the same steps as shown in the video below and let me know if this is 100% reproducible, thanks!

Equally interested in users who do NOT find this issue on Windows 10, and it will then be a case of tracking what specific system element causes it. I noticed the new file dialog layout, is this typical of Windows 10 (all versions)?

P.S. As you may have guessed, Lee not upgraded for free yet

Nope no issue here.

I had a similar issue for a while, then it just stopped after I found and removed a few models in my library with missing or corrupt FPE's, whether the two things are related or just coincidence I don't know.

(yes I'm on windows 10 upgraded from 7, need to reinstall sometime though because the upgrade bugged windows10 and it fails to windows update)

Hi Lee, I am using the latest Windows 10 release (11102), I tried the steps but could not reproduce.

I did have a similar issue the other day though - as far as the editor becoming unusable - it happened after trying to use the Blend tool in the editor. Had to restart Game-Guru.

Reliquia....

I just tried them and haven't had any issues. I am, however, all too familiar with the memory fragmentation error; usually it occurs (and I know most are aware of this) after taking focus away from GG, working on something else, running to the store, walking the dog, whatever, then returning focus to GG.

About memory frag:

https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/214048

I thoguht mem frag may have many different causes, but it all has to do with the chunks allocation, inefficient way may produce memory lacks, and crashes.

These guys explain it better than me:

Quote: "The classic symptom of memory fragmentation is that you try to allocate a large block and you can't, even though you appear to have enough memory free. Another possible consequence is the inability of the process to release memory back to the OS (because there's some object still in use in all the blocks it has allocated from the OS, even though those blocks are now mostly unused)."

Source: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3770457/what-is-memory-fragmentation

There is some useful too called " C++ Memory validator" goes quite fine to track the memory usage, of course you need to have GG debug code.

Tried the steps but all work as they should do..

Upgrade to Windows 10 - 64bit from Windows 8.1 - 64bit
Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 1511
Ram 16 GB
System Type 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i7-4790
Nvidia Ge-Force GTX 750 Ti

One thing I never put GG into the Program Files folder..
I always place it in my own root folder eg. c:\3d-stuff\Steam
I found a few problems in old reloaded days when you use the Program Files folder... back before Win-10 or Win8-1
So I always now use another root folder...

Now I'm getting black editor screen with "shape mode" icon.
One map working right tonight, and today the same map without any change, does not. I'm getting black textured meshes (custom building), but does not tonight.

The same black textured buiding, work righ in a blank map, but does not in my map, there it is complete black

How one map can work today, but does not tomorrow (maybe GG do not want to sleep ).
There should be another "3ª party" causes.

My specs, please refer to my sig.

I'm notice all the guys does not having issues with mem frag, they are running into 16gb+ ram ; that makes me remembrances about...

Quote: "That said the more memory you have the longer it will be before you feel the effects of memory fragmentation. That isn’t necessarily a good thing. The sooner you know about it the sooner you can fix it."

Aha!

So there I was thinking....

I wonder if there is a workaround for the wav files like there is for x.files.... I tried a hex editor to open the fpm to see if I could 'load' up with ogg files then just edit replace ogg with wav. Yucch! Alien script or something.

Then a little question irritated me.

WHY.
Why is it that if I load a sound zone and just leave it with default (.wav) it works.
Why is it that the GG demo games etc all work too, as well as my old games.

It is only at the moment of import (as with the .x) that it crashes.

SOOOOOOOOoooooo.

Blank map. Hoi soundzone on map. Instead of browsing to a .wav file, simply went to that field and typed in one I knew of - amospheric\desert.wav.

No crash, test game works.

No tested exhaustively yet, abotu to go back to my project files and see if I can do this and drop the ogg's which don't seem to loop so well (I know - they're meant for music not sounds - but as needs must they say).

Will confirm/deny later....

But if this does work, then the finger HAS to be pointing at some kind of file browsing issue??

cheers for now

Phil

Tada!

My project are back on track!!!!
(apply cruddy movie S.Efrican eccent here)
yup! type in .wav and apply changes...
just don't browse or she are crashing times.....

I highly recommend Koshi John's MemCleaner if you're having issues with memory, it basically flushes and cleans up the memory every 5 minutes or so, I've used it in the past when games have had memory bugs and it worked quite well for me.

Hmmm. interesting.

Definitely something with the latest file damager, and definitely nothing to do with my memory.

I ran that prog, kinda irritating, says I'm typically using less than 20% of my memory - so did I need to upgrade to 16GB? NO?

I am running Win 10 Pro, is everyone else on Win 10 Home maybe??

Or is there a special version of MS Win 10 for South Africa which targets white guys over 50? (Unemployed in-joke))

Still, going manual seems to be working for now...

could not reproduce it here on windows 10. (upgraded from 7 - 64bit)

Like Reliqua above, the only instability I have in GameGuru is the blend tool which crashes GG every time.

I get fragmentation error on w10, but only when the machine has come out of hibernation/sleep, if I've been away from desk for a while and come back to it for example.

Well, I'm going to need to reinstall Windows 10 as soon as my new drives arrive, so we'll see how many issues I get then.

OK< just reinstalled windows 10, it was surprisingly fast, less than 15 minutes, and I have GG running, I did have the NVidia driver issue, but that was ok once I added some lights, I've tried to recreate the other issues and had no issue at all.
