hi! i would like to know how i can get a 3d model wich is in 3ds (f.e.) into game guru. just importing it does not work. when i open the 3ds file in blender i can export it to an .x file and when i import this x file into GG it has no texture and sometimes these models cause errors in the editor. what is the best step by step way / tutorial to get a 3d model from a file like 3ds or any other file extension that can be opened with blender into game guru to use it as an entity?
thanks in advance!

It should work fine ... try manually ....export the .x model to a folder .... add an fpe and copy the textures in ...
Remember to leave the texture field blank if you have more than one texture ...then copy the whole folder to your entitybank

Not experience with Blender, even so, I had readed a thread in this section talking about normals reverse problem, when exporting from Blender, and something about back to previous version may help.

About the texture, does not import more than twice, I prefer do it manually (old school ), but I thingh you've an option to set texture file, does you did that?

I've never had any issues with 2.69. Still my favorite, even though since I revamped my computers recently, I'm on 2.71. I just haven't even exported anything yet, I've just been playing with the make human toys.

Did the model not come with texture files?

i downloaded some free 3d models from some sites and all i got is f.e. a boat and it's one 3ds file. then i got some files .max and .obj and some have textures in a rar file. most of the models are single files. i managed to import them into blender but i can just export an x-file. and when i import the x file i can choose just one texture for the whole object.

If the item is multi-textured, this can be a problem, in this case perhaps you've to refine fpe file, (set texture field, empty).
If your item have texture sheet (usually uvwrapping in modeling soft, in your case Blender), so you can choose this texture sheet, as texture file.
About single models, I'm affraid you will have to baked textures in blender.

Anyway this models usually are for fun only, since most of them are "personal use only". They are fine for use as reference, when you made your own model.

Any chance you could mail me the original model and textures somehow ?
Perhaps looking at your problem may help.

http://archive3d.net/?a=download&id=c313837d

this is the link to the ship that i would like to have. when i unpack it it is just one file.

http://open3dmodel.com/?dl_id=463
same here (i hope this link is right)

i need a nice motorboat for my map and this would be the fastest way to get one until i got my next order in the store where there is a nice boat i can use. i saw many other objects that are here on GG when i scrolled thru the gallery of this 3D site so it must be possible to do this

Ok I downloaded it...

Firstly no textures are supplied so that's why you cannot see them in blender ...
Also I think its a far to complex model for GameGuru

I found one for you, but need to register (it's free under a CC license).
By cons you will surely make a convertion in the DirectX format and edit textures or add those gaps ^^

If you are looking for a 3DS Converter to DirectX downloaded this software: "Windows Utility ConvertX" https://mvps.org/vbdx/downloads/"
