I have finally got the creation of my mesh objects down, but I need a good UV mapper to create a single texture file for coloring in my objects. Does anybody have any suggestions?

well there are a few. some free some don't
I use the build in uvmapper of 3ds max (i use the student version )
blender can also uv map, and there are lots of tutorials to find on how to.

I use also sometimes sculptris its free and you can also paint your model in it.
My latest warg creature i also paint in sculptris.

then there are:
ultimate unwrap 3d is not really exspensive 59,95

Uvmapper pro. also 59,95

LithUnwrap is free( never used that so don't know much about it)
UVMapper Classic is also free ( used that before, did his job,but is very basic)

Why not unwrap by hand. You will always get better results!

I know it can be time consuming, but, that is part of modelling. If you practice often enough, you will get faster and it becomes less tedious the more you do it.

This is obviously, just my opinion, but, I have tried some of the unwrapping tools and I always find that they leave less than satisfactory results. I always have to go in afterwards and clean it all up, which in turn takes about the same time and effort as unwrapping the whole thing by hand.

Cheers

Jay.

All of the above are good/great choices. As Unfamillia said, I too unwrap by hand. If you still need a tool, but don't have enough
monies to spend, take a look at "RoadKill" from Pullin-Shapes. It's quick and easy to learn, and best of all it's free!
