HI again guys. I know how to save the game but I’m wondering how can you save it with the night time and fog effects that you can put on them during the preview?

the visuals.ini file should have copied over to the standalone folders with the rest of the core files.
There is one there, but I am guessing it is not the same as the one you saved with the level.

In the GG root folder there is this file, copy it over to the standalone folder and see if you settings are restored.

I think the problem is that any changes i make in the TEST MODE won't save. I know because i have moved entities and when hit Esc the entity is back in my editor. ALso when i make changes to the sky, light, vegetation, all of that won't save when i hit Esc. Id there a way i can save in Test mode anything i do?

on the entity that wont erase, If they were sprayed objects, they wont erase in any other mode but top down and stay gone after you save a map file. That is a reported bug.
What operating system are you on and what are you machine specs.
Saving the map as a new map file name, may help this.

Also running as admin may help this also.

I have tried to save as diferent name and i still get the same error with the game not recording the Test Mode changes. I am also a local admin on my PC but i'll go ahead and check the box (Run as Admin) anyway and see if anything does change and report back.

My system specs:

Intel Core i7 4790k (4 Cores + 4 Logical Cores)
16GB RAM
Nvidia GTX980
Windows 8.1

ok so i changed the name of the project and made changes to the sky, light, fog and others and when i hit save as standalone the settings didn't save. I also made sure i checked the run as administrator check box and sill having the same problem.

You will have to copy the files over manually that are missing.

I tried that but the problem is that the visual file inside game guru also doesn't save done in test mode. Everything saves exept that file. It keeps reverting to its default status. I honestly don't know whats up with this.

If you can produce an exact step by step from a fresh install, making a change then saving the level, then the save standalone and showing the issue of the change not taking hold (each and every step that is). I can then follow it exactly and see if I can see the bug in build 028, thanks!

ok i have reinstalled gameguru once in the past, but i will do it again. Shoudld i delete every gameguru file from the steam folder as well or just normal uninstall? Will i lose all the purchases i have done?

Hi Timba

If you uninstall using add/Remove programs and reinstall via steam your files folder will stay intact ...
That being said ...if your really worried then back up but I have reinstalled many times and its always been perfect ...

I have found that reinstalling is often quicker that verifying files to be honest

ok, so i re-installed Game Guru and I still get the same issue. The main problem is that the visuals.ini doesn't save the settings i set in Test Level. Should i be making this changes after the game is created manually or is Game Guru spouse to save as i do them in the Test Level mode?

I added a screenshot of the change done in the Game Guru Test Level mode and the visuals.ini file after saving the game as a StandAlone. As you can see it doesn't record any changes. I would like to add the I saved the game under a whole different name two times with same result.

I've been having this issue since the previous build but i didnt report it because i thought it was something i was doing wrong. I have a game almost done i cant properly test it because of this. I hope i can get this fixed soon.

there is not a fix released for this yet. sorry. May I suggest that when you save your stand alone build to copy the visuals.ini file to that build folder, do that for each level you save. See if that will at least hold the setting if not the skybox and terrain settings.

The changes doesn't even save in the Game-Guru directory. That's the reason it doesn't work. I tried going into Game-Guru after i made the change and before saving the standalone and the settings where never changed. It just doesn't write to the that file. I even went into the game file and added my user as an administrator and gave it full control and still doesn't work. At this point i figured that Game-Guru is just not saving the settings I do in that mode.

For example: I go into the Game Guru editor, run Test mode and change the skymap, terrain, add fog and hit esc. After that, i go again into the test mode and the settings are reset. (It would be nice to have a Save option in Test mode, if there is one i don't see it and i can't find the command keys to do it)

I only have about 80-90 hours or using this application so I know i'm just a noob at the moment. I have watch every GG tutorial on this site and many more in Youtube, i just can't figure this out.

these feature do work. What are the permissions of you GG folder. Sounds like it is being prevented from being written because of write permissions for that folder.

I have installed my GG on d drive, and I have much better results for everything, including being able to write the workshop folder for Multi player stuff.

If the changing permissions does not work.

I have it installed on a different drive. (F to be exact) and i changed the entire drive ownership but it still happens. I can do any other changes in any other folder or files in that drive. even on the Game Guru folder. It's for some reason Game Guru saves everything else except the visuals.ini content. I even made game guru run as an administrator and nothing. This is so frustrating.

Would it be possible to mail me your fpm file .... if it works ok on mine then that should rule out a bug ...
After that you would have to look at some weird thing going on with your OS ...

I just haven't seen any other posts with this particular issue ?

i sent you the fpm. I tested running the zombie game that comes with game guru and the visual.ini does save the settings. Is just new projects that are not saving the setting. For example if you send me an fpm with settins changes i might be able to edit them and they will be recorded. But if i make them i will not be able to change the visual.ini unless I do it manually in the game directory.

Hi Timba ...

a quick update .... when I loaded the map it was as default daylight .... I then altered to the night time configuration using the exact settings on your picture above then saved as a new map ..... I then made a standalone and it worked perfectly ...

However.... I do not own all these models so they are not the map I loaded and saved .... But the fog, lighting, sky and all the other settings were perfect in the standalone .... i will now try a few more alterations and create another standalone ...

Hi Timba ...

Ok tried everything.. adding models...taking them away .... changing terrain and skies etc ...even lighting .....and no issues ..

Once the terrain did not change but I forgot to save after making the alteration.....saved it and remade the standalone and it was perfect ..
I didn't even get the sky error that crops up sometimes ...after " my map 12" and every sequence I could think of i guessed it works fine on mine and does not appear to be a GameGuru Bug .

Stupid question but when you change terrain or skies etc you are saving it before making a standalone right ?

Also something to try ...put this map aside a moment .... open a blank map and try making a few adjustments to terrain , lighting and add a model
Save it ...... then make a standalone .... I would be interested to see what it does for you.

BTW....Nice map ...I like what your doing

i just tried it on a new map and still the same results. It's just odd that everything else saves. if you go to the test level folder in GG i can see that everything i that folder update date/time changes once you open and close test mode or save the fpm. all files except visual.ini updates. This has to be a GG issue because every other file is saving. I even changed the inhered options under security settings and still the same issue persists. I am new into Game Guru but I've been on the network field for a couple years now and i have used pretty much all my IT expertise up to now and i just can't find an issue with the computer. I haven't tried on another PC because the only other computer i have is not powerful enough to run this since my wire only uses it for her school work.

I do know that i have over 600 additional models that i have purchased from the sore here so maybe that's the problem?

Ok so i can make 1 or two changes in test mode but if i make too many i get a message saying "Resuming from previous session" and everything just resets. I even reinstalled Game Guru in another drive that has no data except GG just to test if it's a rights issue with the D drive but no.

anyone else can share some light into this? I found 2 other post about this issue in the bug section but there was on solution on them. The post are old so maybe there found a solution but never updated them?

Hi Timba ..


Got your PM and looked at the old posts .... I can only assume they rectified there issue ...
As you know we have tried for hours to reproduce your error without any success.... the nearest error that pops up now and again is the skybox does not show up but its easily rectified ....

The only thing I can suggest now is using the " help button" on the bottom left which connects you directly to customer support ...
Personally I don't think this is a bug or we would have had hundreds with the issue..... 3 in the last year makes me think its a windows problem ?

I never have this problem, so I've not any clue about.
But, what's about some sort of antivir than does not allow, overwrite those files?
Or, did you tried "verify files" via steam App. ?

My grandmother used to say, when you do not find something you are looking, in the usual places, then it's time to start looking in the freezer.

I am running Avira Pro and Malwarebytes. I can manually check if there is a way to exclude an entire directory "Game Guru" and see.

What i did found out is that if I go into Test Mode and change for example the Fog distance and add weedy2 and hit Esc, the changes will save. I know because if I go to the Visual.ini they are saved. But if i go into test mode again and make a new change like for example change the FOV and click esc, all the settings will reset. This happens with any settings i do there. It will allow me to change 2-3 things only but if i go beyond that the Visual.ini will reset to default.

I keep getting "Resuming from previous session" and when i see that i know everything i did in test mode is gone. and now i know is not just the Visuals. Is everything I do in that mode.

I'll say it one more time, There should be a save option in that mode. That way, when you hit it you know it's saved.

Still no reply from the dev team in regards my issue.

If GG crashes and this message comes up, my visual.ini resets - and it always has done for every version so far. If I have saved the level before the crash I get back most changes except for the visuals. Are you getting the visual reset only after a crash or any time you try and make more than a few changes (without a crash ... 'resuming from previous session' message)?

I know it's frustrating but I guess you have to give the devs some time with their creation to fix things

I know but, I've been having this since i bough GG with build 1.00.028 and i feel like they look aside. 2-3 post of this are in Steampowered and no Dev replied back, 2 others are in the bug section of this forum and one of them the dev just closed it because he couldn't reduplicate it. I just need to know they are looking into this and not just putting it aside since it's a rare bug. It's a app-breaking bug to be exact because you can't finish the project you are working on.

So if you get that every time - there is something else at the root of this problem ... the visuals.ini issue happens to me when I get this message ... but I only get this message when I'm testing something that makes GG crash (I code and test a lot).

So I'm now wondering what it is that is causing GG to routinely crash for you ... do you have any non stock scripts or custom entities in your maps (that crash GG)? You've had this every time? I see that you've tried a reinstall - have you tried a 'reverify files' also? Not sure that is much different from a reinstall to be honest, but it might be something is corrupting on/during install that a verify/fix might sort out.

Yeah i have ran the steam check file and all is fine. I do have a couple scripts but this also happens to me if i do a plane map and just tun test mode and make changes.

what about one of the example maps that comes with GG - can you open one of these and makes changes without getting the 'resuming from ...' message?

I will try that when i get home tonight. I know if i load them i can see all the changes done to them and i if i exit to the map editor i don't get that (resuming from previous session) error. I haven't tried to make any changes on does map but i'll go ahead and see what happens and report back.

This is so upsetting. I feel like the dev team just doesn't care about my issue. Last email was asking me about my system specs even though i have already given them this information 3-4 days ago.

Just got your map from synchromesh, and I loaded it and ran a test game, Set the setting to what you are showing above.
Exited test game, save the map file as a new name.
Saved a standalone version, Verified the Visual.ini file where the same. And they were in both places in the standalone build. Identical.

Ran the standalone and the level was the same as it was in test game.

This map I have from synchromesh, did not have any lightmapping, but I noticed that your settings say baked.

Sorry I cant reproduce it again from your map file.

You are not alone.

I have created a small game level for testing purpose, and after that, saved it as standalone version.
After run the game produced, I noticed the game scenario did not match with the test version.

Summarizing up: The files visual.ini, before, and after the standalone version, have not matched, as may be verified accessing the link below.

Furthermore, I have experienced a drastic drop in the frame rate as well, becomes the game non-playable at all.

I am just reporting some glitches, which are happening with the latest version(029).

I am reverting back to the previously version (1.00.28).

there is no way to reliably go back to that version. So I have been told. Thank you for reporting you still have this issue.

Well, I make a map, just for test this issue.

What I did so far: (step1)
1- make map with few stock ítems
2- Add windzone+triggerzone ( I'm trying for test my own script via trigger zone)
3- go to test mode and change some values like terrain, sky, veg types. Also fog, shadows, ambiece level and so on.
4- save level as level1.
5- save level1 as standalone one.
Goto visual.ini file (within level1 folder). And all is ok. (all the setting changes being saved).

step2
I did the same with level2 as I did with level1. (of course using differents setting values, than level1)
Goto visual.ini file (within level2 folder). And I found that GG is using the same level1 Visual.ini file with level2, instead of their own.
In another words, if I set dark sky in level1, and golden one in Level2, I got sky dark in visual.ini file in level2. Those 2 files are exatly the same file.
I looks like GG taking the firts one file as default for every levels, does not matter the changes you do.

I've to add that when I run my standalone, all the setting changes are there, but the same settings for both levels.

Just to clarify:
I'm not looking for fix this issue, since there are others most important for me now, like trigger zone that does not work, but I'll state it in my thread about standalone issue, in bug sub-fórum.

Ok so I have copied the entire Game-Guro directory from Steam and ran it in another computer an i can same the game with the proper settings. I know it's my PC and not. I say not because i have tried other applications and this doesn't happen. Anything i do in Test Mode just reverts the moment i hit esc and never saves. One of the devs just told me to manually copy the visuails.ini file over but when the standalone tittle is create it does creates a visuals.ini file but with the defaults settings. Even if i change the settings manually by editing the ini file, the moment you tun the game will also just reset.

You are selecting .."File " and "Save" right ..... after your alterations .....ESC does not automatically save ...
Just checking because of your quote above ..
