@lordjulian
I too would love some pointers, as video will be a major part of my projects. I'm using MOVAVI as a video editor and converter, about $50, and pretty good.
For "Old Larry" level stuff, you'll need some kind of video compositor, I have an older version of Adobe After Effects, but there are others out there.
SOAPBOX TIME.....
Cut scenes often include video captured inside the game. The problem here continues to be the lack of script-able engine connections so we can move the camera, the same as we can move any other entity. The basic camera/player movements are already in the engine. All that's left is access to control functions like CameraMove XYZ, CameraRotate XYZ, and SetCameraPositionXYZ, etc. OR give the camera an entity number, and let us use the existing movement, rotation, and position functions.
With these connections we COULD script specific movements, speeds, banks, look downs, etc, all as real time video, captured with a system like Action. Plus, if we're ever going to be able to drive a car, fly a helicopter, or slide down a zip line, we're going to need this level of camera control.
Love the Story Zone Video, hope down the road we might be able to attach video to an object as part of its texture, ... way down the road...I understand.
Hopefully Camera control is soon... PLEASE!!!
end SOAPBOX....
