Hi there, i am working on my level and decided to build the lightmaps to see how the final product looks.

But even though i am currently only using like 2 squares of the lightmapper for my map and the rest of perfectly flat terrain.

Gameguru still lightmaps the entire map :I.

On my other level it doesn't do this! It takes about 15 minutes instead of the 2 needed.

Any idea why this is happening?

Lightmapping will lightmap any place you may have placed an object or at the objects insertion point.

Though most of the time should not LM the full grid. Can we get a overhead screen shot of your map please.

Thank you.

Looks like it should not do that at all. If this is all stock can you email me the FPM file and I will run it on my machine.

myke1net at Hotmail.com if under 15mb.
Put gameGuru in the subject so it don't go to spam mail.
Thanks

After some researching i found out that the terrain at the sides had these weird sharp edges into water on them.

Wich is weird since i chose *new flat map*.

I have flattened them now and i will see if the problem persists.

Also it contains about 80% custom content .

I'l link a few screenshots if you are interested.

Also this forum needs a proper way to reply to someone so that they get it in some sort of inbox instead of having to manually check for replies on the post itself :I.

Did you make they custom assets. Are there insert point not in the center of the object? And yes, screen shots are always good. Thanks

After 20 sodding minutes the lightmapping finished :I.

Here are some ingame screenshots.

When i exit the map the terrain looks like it has buggy black triangles that i suppose are shadows bugging out.

Don't have a picture of that though 'doh

Okay as a little update. GameGuru builds the lightmap of the entire map on EVERY map i make now!

Even though i just use the flat terrain.

Maybe it's a bug with a new update?

I am not seeing that at all. Just maybe 2 or 3 grids, around any sculpted terrain or where I place entities.

Now I am going to ask a dumb question: Are you on bld .022?, and what does you file verification tell you?
ok 2 questions then.

Also, sorry that this is happening to you.

On my most recent map it didn't do it.

It's seems to be some wierd thing in certain flat terrain maps but not all.

Me too.
I insert a single object in the map and when the launch LightMapping takes 15-20 minutes. is absurd

Yeah it does it to me too. Not every time, though. Weird. It's been doing that, though, since the lightmapper was first implemented. It's one of two reasons I just quit using it. I had just hoped it was sorted out by now.

What objects are you using ....
If it has been scaled in the fpe I have noticed it will use most of the grid to lightmap ?

Before my post I tried just a few buildings from the TGC city pack to see if it still did it. And it did. They aren't scaled in the fpe. I don't lightmap as a rule, my computers can handle dynamic lights for the small things I make. I do, however test it from time to time!

I wasn't about to go through the precautionary backup and reinstall process for something I don't use (I don't even get an increase in frame rate when I do lightmap), but I used the Steam app to verify the integrity of the game cache and 2 files apparently needed to be fixed. It gave no indication that it was fixing them, but I waited a few minutes and launched GG, threw a couple buildings in and ran the lightmapper. It didn't do the whole of the map this time, but like I said above, it doesn't do it every time for me anyway. So that's where that is anyway!
