Another video...
I was bored and played around with the plants...
I wanted to see how many plants are needed before the framerate goes down....

The Flower Island ... killed the framerate (below 12), GG powered by a GTX970 hahaha

Looks great. I see even on your super fast GPU it is still struggling at this point a little though. Proof that we sure need more performance overall. I wonder, is it just the old shader model 2 model shaders slowing newer cards? Would newer cards see improvements with newer shader support?

Great looking map. We just need slightly lower spec cards to be able to run it that well

Well, I had between 16-30 fps, I would say that is not very good for that card.
All other games are running with 60, 70, 90, 100+ frames...

looks great but needs some life (wildlife and insects etc), a very nice showcase of what can be achieved with standard media though all the same
although as expected and as you point out the fps is already unplayable, i doubt that will change with that many entities though
life\'s one big game

wildlife... yes, that would be nice, or a butterfly farm hahaha.
I really used a lot of animated trees and plants.
this was done in 20-35 mins... not really a good work for me, I was just playing around with everything...

Watching your videos has inspired me to start looking at new video cards! LOL, thanks, man! Hopefully Lee will get performance to a point where something like that will run decently on my current hardware before envy gets the better of me.

hahaha I bought a new pc last year, with this nice card inside (ready for gta v).
yes, more perfomance is needed. see, with the gtx970 I had a low framerate, so what would be if a gamer has a lets say gtx660 or 560... maybe then the framerate would be around 5 fps (?).

I just hope that they someday kickout the old WinXP parts (dx9) and integrate dx11, 64bit support, cpu multicore support.
more and more people (gamer) switch now to win7 or 8.1 or soon to 10. I don't think that XP support is still needed by the end of the year.

The current engine does not really handle a large quantity of trees and veg very well, and treats them like individual entities for the most part. Light-mapping will batch static entities into clumps but its not ideal as the polygon count is not reduced for LM clumps at any distance. Many games use something like SpeedTree to solve the mass-foliage issue and something similar will allow Game Guru to boost gorgeous scenes like this significantly. My guess is the GTX is not really working hard at all, and is in fact the CPU having to deal with a LOT of draw call activity. Hopefully when a suitable forest and forest-floor batching system is implemented, performance should be restored to the three digit score you are used to seeing on your monster rig!

I created a maze I can not go.
The FPS have plummeted, and the player's speed is less than a turtle.
The plan is to populate the maze of zombies, all paths converge in the center, here is a cemetery.
Zombies can not enter into sacred ground, so this is a good haven for rest a d heal wounds, replenish ammunition, etc.

Obviously there is a way out, the player will have to find.
If you get out of the labyrinth awaits a town full of more bad bugs.

I'll have to think of another way to do the maze, less elaborate, low poly perhaps, but this diminishes the quality. The bows have 4000 and 1200 polygons trees, so when you just put trees on the map, you have a considerable amount of polygons.

I know you already are working on, meantime I'll think something alternative.

It's like Flight Simulator X, all rendering is CPU related. And it uses also only one core of the CPU, the gtx970 not help that much.
Same at GG, most work is done by one CPU core.
Also the AI from the characters reduce the framerate a lot.
Sounds good the forest batching system...
