Hi all,

My second request of the day:

Some users have reported grass disappearing on medium shader settings. Is this happening for anyone still?

If you can replicate it, it would be great if someone could make a video showing what is happening (youtube please).

We've tested on quite a few machines, using a mix of cards and motherboards and we can't reproduce it.

Many thanks,

SC

I did notice that myself but I think it was down to the Vegetation slider...... Unless its up full it pretty much vanishes on medium...
Would that be what's being experienced ?

That's not happening for me unless the slider is below 8.. Maybe on other systems?

I seem to remember different grass types can work differently from others. The default grass works better than some of the others you can choose from. Shader settings vary as well, so it is a difficult one to pin down. For me, it's not that the grass disappears, it is just the draw distance is much lower and the fade effect ends up making the grass look almost non existent. posting that level you asked for atm, but will see if I can find an example of the grass problem.

I get it with highest settings. In shallow water so swamp land is iffy

Had a quick test. Default grass shows distinct differences due to shader settings.

Full shader settings, reasonable coverage, no fade.

Medium shader settings, less coverage no fade.

Lowest settings, worse coverage but fades nicely.

I think the fade effect should be present in all settings, and not to the detriment of the draw distance we have already, as that is already fairly low as it is. Flat floors tend to look okay but hills always have grass growing up them as you approach Never looks good to me.

Other grass types differ in how they react, really as mentioned previously (not in this post), the grass needs a good sorting through.

I'm confused here.. is this a draw distance issue? Where on medium settings the grass doesn't draw in the distance... if so I have this problem. I could post screenshots if you like and give you my system specifications. I didn't think it was a problem though as I assumed the draw distance was lower to compensate for less powerful computers!

@Corno1.

As you are the only user who seems to be able to demonstrate this issue, could you please let me know your system specs and possibly supply me with an FPM.

Many thanks,

SC

I have the same issue as Corno_1 shows..
Low, Grass
Med. NO Grass
High Grass

Tried everything, baking the level.. changing vegetation sliders.. no change for medium grass setting

System specs.. I7, 12GB ram.. AMD HD7950.
My guess.. it only happens on AMD systems..

I can supply you with screenshots, but hey would be the same as Corno_1 already showed.

The draw distance issue I point out is for me, annoying. Why does the only fading occur on lowest? This means that on medium and high the fading is not present and thus looks ugly very often. Just make a hill, cover the scene with grass, get a suitable distance from the hill and walk towards it. On all but lowest settings the grass magically climbs up the hill. It does on lowest also, but as the fade is there it is not as near so jarring. Also, different grasses give different results, I just thought I'd show even the default stock grass is not perfect yet. Perhaps, if performance is an issue, at least a way to enable the fade on the higher settings.
