The first thing that screams out to me is that the model is set to default 'Static'.

Change it to dynamic and I think you will come back here and leave me a comment saying thanks, and you don't know how you missed that.

You can also set it to dynamic in the editor. When the object is selected (attached to your cursor) simply press 'Y' on your keyboard and the glow around the model should turn from red to green. Red is static, Green is dynamic.

Cheers

Jay.

no it does not work in FPSC Reloaded. I brought the mesh into fragmotion and I could not get it to work in there either. Is this from Blender? If so use the 1.69 version I believe they said on the forum as the latest one brakes xfiles on export.

I am importing this to 3d Max right now.

Also I notice when I assigned a texture to it that the shell of the model was just white, like using vertex data for color.

I will get right back with you.

OK Imported the xfile to 3d max and I see that bones were used in the animation. What I am seeing there is that max show the top of the base under the part that is supposed to rotate, twisting with the animation. This might be part of the problem. will adjust and get right back to you.

Dynamic did not work either.

If it is bone animated you must use the character_basic shader. The entity_basic shader will play vertex animations but not bone.

I could not get your mesh to work at all. The normal where facing inside and the mesh was twisted in the import. But I did get two different kinds of animations working after remaking the radar tower mesh in 3d max. I know this don't help you, but maybe you can tell us which program you use.

One is boned animation and the other is vertex animation.

The fpe files are set up for each. You need to determine the collision for the boned animation one and change it in the fpe file.

A texture I used, you may use it if you want, for what ever, The picture in side it came from CGTextures.com

Map file included.

Attached below.

Hey Thanks to all!!

@rolfy

Ok now i have an animation but somthing with xyz axis dont work. it turns around itselfs.

@Pirate Myke

Wow thanks a lot for your work!

I use blender. in the newest version 2.72 the exporter seams to work...

This model is only a test model. because of that there is no uv-mapping and texturing..

tried to import your models but it is not working properly...

edit: oh there is an fbx file!! lets try it!

I hope i get it!

your welcome. max is z up not y up, fbx should take care of that for you.

If you use Blender, I can take a look at the Blend file for you and see if I can get it working?

Cheers

Jay.

Ok, I am VERY tired as it is quite late here and I have to be up for work in the morning, but, here is a very quick version. I haven't tested it, but, it should work.

I have also saved the Blend file.

I just removed the bones and used vertex animation instead.

Hope this helps.

As Steohl said, you should watch my simple animation video to fully understand what I have done with this model.

Cheers

Jay.

Ok Thanks,

does this mean that bones animation not working out of blender?
because if i want to animate a complex model its not working like this.
and how i can use this with LOD?

its nice to now that other people use blender!

No worries.

Yes, you can export bone animations out of Blender; that's not the issue. For a simple animation such as something rotating or a lid opening, I would always use vertex animation. If you use bones, you will need to change the shader to the Character_basic.fx. I don't know if there are any pro's or cons with vertex animation versus boned, that is where someone with more experience than I, will have to chip in. I just like to use the entity_basic.fx shader, as I feel, this will be more optimised for basic assets. Whether I am correct with my assumption; well, that's a different story.

I love Blender! Everything about it is perfect for me. I have tried to use 3DS Max and couldn't get my head around it, even though, it's supposed to be easier to learn. I guess there are more tutorials on Blender?

Cheers

Jay.

vertex animation is very easy to use. but how i can use this with Level of Detail?

I do LOD like this:
Mesh01 renamed to LOD_0
Mesh02 renamed to LOD_1
Mesh03 renamed to LOD_2
and it works!

now i have more then this three meshes.

did you now how to manage that?

Unfortunately, I have no experience with LOD. I always keep my meshes as low poly as possible, so, going through the process of reducing the poly count wouldn't really be worth it as the performance increase wouldn't be noticeable.

I will have to leave this question to someone that knows more about it than I do.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Cheers

Jay.

No Problem!

But perhaps you can show me how the bone animation would work on this simple object? if you had the time.

anyway thanks a lot!
