You control transparency through the texture, not the modeler.

Add an alpha channel (with the glass part being a greyish color and the solid parts being pure white) to the diffuse map.

I too use MilkShape and plan on creating glass elements. In this regard one additional question.

I understand the alpha channel setting. As the .X file (with the glass element) is loaded into to reloaded are there any special FPE or entity settings needed to activate the transparency?

Thanks

I think you just have to use an alpha channel in your image editor no? For your diffuse DDS map.

Also.. forgot to ask, once the glass is in Reloaded, can it be set for reflections?

Using GIMP :
Open up your texture image.
Right click on the layer with the image.
Select 'Add layer mask'
Choose a grey colour (darker = more transparency)
Making sure that the layer mask is selected, paint the grey over the area you want to be transparent (you should see the chequered background appear behind the texture).
Export as .dds file.

Hi bisella,

There was a problem with the texture, the first time I open the template in the motor it works fine, but other times I try to open the same model the texture is not transparent.

You has to delete bin an dbo files, before try a new model texture.

Hi,

Finally discovered when the texture is in TGA works only once and then when the DDS texture appears the problem happens, but if you leave the direct transparent texture as DDS and not as TGA the engine will only run exactly the DDS texture, thus resulting in transparency definitive of the model.

Hi Alfredx10,

If you want to make a glass with transparency, this it is not so difficult, but the point is that there are several problems happening at the moment with the FPSC-R, when you have a transparent object (glass) , such as:

1- The characters (bad guys) simply do not appear when you (camera) are watching them through the glass panel.

2- The stock buildings shipped with the FPSC-R do not appear through the glass as well.

3- Almost all foliage stuffs, behave the same way.

Maybe in the next version, the issues above spotted might be corrected, but at this time is a very tough task when the subject is transparent objects, in particular, the glass panel.

Cheers,

Northern

Hi all,

Sorry, I was wrong about the transparency in objects in the FPSC-R on my last post. It's all working fine, in fact; I did a mistake when making the textures with transparency. The video below is showing the transparency in action during a game play.

Thanks!

Actually you are correct the first time Northern, it is an issue with draw order that objects placed after a transparent entity will not be seen through it, I am guessing you placed all the characters etc before placing the glass entity in the scene above. This should be fixed with the next Beta release.

I wonder if the fix will apply to draw order within a single entity mesh. I currently have an issue on my car with glass on 4 sides (interior and exterior) and there's one window i can look through and the opposing window doesn't draw.
