After seeing this tech video, I'm sold on CryEngine 3. I'll be clunking down my $10 for a subscription tonight.

Been reading that Unreal Engine 4 would be currently the better deal if you aim to go down and dirty with a big-boy engine.
Epic is also a more seasoned and stable developer compared to crytek.
Sad to see ya leave though.

I was looking at Unreal 4 first, but I actually think CryEngine is a better deal. With Unreal 4 you can just get the engine for $19 and not pay another dime until you need an update, but you still have to pay the 5% royalty on sales. You don't have to pay royalties on CryEngine at all. And they are going to have a Wii U option for CryEngine, but not so with Unreal 4. And I'm a Wii U fan and would like to publish there as well at some point.

But, yes, I am most likely leaving the Reloaded scene soon. I'm tired of being limited with what I can do. I want something that can take me anywhere I want to go with my ideas. And either Unreal 4 or CryEngine can do that for me.

I was switching to another engine once too, the sense of creative freedom is riveting at first! I took my project pretty far, further than most one-man unreal engine projects go. It had doors you could operate and you could navigate and pick up a sword.
However, making a game with it would have taken me full time and even then, the workload was staggering.
You'd have to team up with some folks to manage the workload, and that is always hard to maintain.
This is why I came back to my FPSCRoots and grew attached to it.

Here is a screen of my old project. This scene I will recreate in reloaded once it has sufficient features. I still believe that it will be great software

I think that's true of any engine, including Reloaded. Anyway, I looked further and there's definitely a gotcha with CryEngine 3. They have an audio system that would require additional licensing once you get serious. And I'm seeing some negative feedback on Steam, with people saying Unreal 4 is a better deal. So, I might just go with that first and see where that leads.

Nice screenshot, btw.

Found out that CryEngine has more gotchas. I guess I'm no longer sold. Looking at Unreal 4 instead.

Have you checked out NeoAxis 3D Engine tom ?,...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-u9B31MzSI8

It's free now too. http://www.neoaxis.com/

It might be a bit more suitable for us indie devs.

Yes, I looked at that, but not really interested. I'm loving Unreal so far and I'm just playing with the old UDK version so far. It's quite amazing.

It is amazing,....I looked at it myself a year or two back,...but like Wolf said, you really need a team to work with that, so good luck if you decide to go it alone.

I have been quite silent on the Reloaded forums recently due to me playing UE4. I must say, it is stupidly powerful and can output to Android, which is a huge feature for me. I am working on a little sidescrolling game and using some of my own models. They look exactly how I want them to look! I found that I almost changed my modelling style to try and suit Reloaded, to get a 'similar' look as to what I wanted, but, UE4, just plug all the textures in and it looks better than some of the renders I have done....realtime!

Tom, if you are thinking of starting with UE4, consider me a teammate! Together, I feel we could produce something beautiful!

You have my details if you are interested in joining up.

As I have stated before, I am NOT leaving Reloaded, just playing with other engines, FPSC has a solid place in my heart and always will! I will always come back now and again.

Cheers

Jay.

This video sums cryengine up pretty well. Perhaps it does not...who is to say?

But on a serious note: You guys keep in mind that I also make assets for high-end engines...and am cheaper than most! ,okay?

My skype is simply : serygalacaffeine

Another one here for UE4, it's simply brilliant ! Don't bother with UDK Tom, just go straight for UE4, you get free characters as well.

Just watch your UV layouts and lighting, bad UV's will bite you in the ass

I haven't left Reloaded either, I'm just playing but UE4 is sooooo good.

I tell you what! Why don't we make a team of Reloaded users and take UE4 by storm! Wolf, E30 and myself are all modellers and Tom is the master coder. I know you all like the whole fantasy theme!

I know that sounds like an excited 'noob' team request post, but........that's exactly what it is!

Who's in?

Cheers

Jay.

Tom, the only way to describe the engine is by using either the name of the engine or the name of the company!

It is Unreal and the way it handles shaders and materials is just......Epic!

Yeah, it's FBX. Nice format to use. Your textures can be any format, it doesn't matter. You can even mix them up. I mixed .dds, .png and .jpg. The material it made was still stunning.

Hey, guys. Check out this realtime movie done in UE4. If this doesn't convince anyone just how great Unreal is then nothing will. If we had a scene like this in FPSCR, it probably wouldn't even load, but if it managed to render it would probably be about .01 frames per second. Just saying.

Actually it's better than that. You can pay once and never pay again and still release the game you made with it. You don't have to be an active subscriber to release your game. You do, however, still have to pay the 5% royalty on sales. But that's a dirt cheap royalty to pay in any industry.

No I am not interested. Simply because I am really useless. My only skills are:

C (study engineer), java(school)

gimp and paint net

some modeling skills with hexagon 3d but no texturing skills

Have big plans but no time to realise it!

So I am better here and play with reloaded, but I will follow your project of course!

if you guys need a tester just contact me.

I started messing with UDK3 just around the time it was announced Reloaded was up for the kickstarter campaign. I really liked the fact that it would allow a 45,000 polygon animated character in fbx (I think it was) format and not raise the slightest fuss! Is the Unreal Engine similar? I looked at some screen shots of the interface just now and it looks remarkably similar. Just really, if anyone knows, what is the difference between Unreal Development Kit and Unreal Engine? Also, I would love to follow your progress so I will keep my eyes peeled for your thread!

EDIT: I just started watching some video tutorials on the GUI, and while it's been a while since I played with UDK, I am reminded of how easy it is to manipulate entities in the editor. I believe I am sold on this engine as well! It is, indeed, Unreal! I hope TGC implement some of those editing features in Reloaded.

UDK is simply Unreal Engine 3. And Unreal Engine 4 is what we are talking about. It's an advancement in the technology, but still uses pretty much the same interface as UDK. I'm still new to it so I don't know all the new features or changes, but there is plenty of documentation and video tutorials.

Tom, I realize you are talking about Unreal Engine 4, LOL, just after I asked that, I "Googled" it (guess I could have done that from the start) and discovered that. What has thrown me this whole time was the fact that when I was messing with it (some time ago!) there seemed to be no direct reference to the Unreal Engine. It seemed at the time that they were two separate entities under the same roof. Their website has changed quite a bit since I last looked at it, so it was rather easy to find that answer! LOL, anyway, back then I saw a lot of great tutorials on the engine (written and on video), and just tonight I have as well about v. 4. It has been very well documented by the company. They really have their collective minds together! It seemed then to be a great product, and appears only better now. I am sold on it for sure. It will be fun to play with. The whole multi-platform thing is a huge plus! While I pretty much do things for my own entertainment and to learn, it's nice to know that with that particular platform I could pretty much share what I've created with anyone. HUGE plus! I'm not abandoning Reloaded by any means, my heart belongs here! LOL, but I love learning new things. Take care,

Don

I've actually decided not to pursue a game on Unreal 4 right now. I bought the subscription and I'll eventually use it for machinima and maybe even a game, but just not right now. My tendency to get over enthusiastic and act on impulse got the better of me. I don't want to abandon my Wii U development on Unity and jumping to Unreal 4 was definitely jeopardizing that. The other members of this UE4 team are still going ahead with this as far as I know. Maybe they'll keep us all up to date as they proceed.

We are still going ahead with the project.

The team is down to only two people now and we are both modellers.........so.........if any coders want to jump on board, please feel free to message me.

We will update on here as and when we have any sort of progress.

Cheers

EDIT 2 - There is a full size image attached to show off the 'pixelly' goodness.

Jay.

EDIT - As promised, here are a few screenshots of what has been worked on so far. It's a SciFi based side scrolling puzzle game. You play as the little Robot; who is named 'o8'. You must guide him around the levels and solve puzzles to access the net available room. There is little to no story so far. So, any thoughts or comments are more than welcome.

Just a couple of things I am really proud of so far.

*His face is a flashlight

*He constantly has a trail of blue smoke emitting from his 'jet'

*Depth of field

*Chromatic aberration

*Motion Blur

*All my own models (so far)

Cheers

Jay.

I wouldn't mind joining this band of caped crusaders. I have quite a lot to offer in terms of corporate and advertising graphic design, foley sound work, audio mastering, video editing, photography (+texturing) and mild 3D environmental. Lots of additional skills as well all depends on the creative needs and I'm there.

I also love the fantasy styles I've seen from the community and me being a fan of games like Skyrim... I'd love to work on something in that theme.

Hop along to the forums and sign up. There are only two of us working on it so far.

www.jforthdesigns.co.uk/forums

I have created some VERY basic forums on the back of my site, for the purposes of keeping tabs on what progress we are making and/or any ideas we have.

You are more than welcome to pop along and join in the chats. (it's not very active with only two people......)

Cheers

Jay,

That looks like a really cool game so far. I like the look of the robot character.

Cheers Tom.

Glad you like my little character. I wanted to make him a bit 'cartoony', but, retain the realism at the same time; hence, the massive head and tiny body....

Cheers
