At the moment I can log into my account and download my standalone version of Reloaded which is great !!

What happens when it goes to steam ?
Will we all have to get our version from there .... Get keys and activate via steam, wait for updates via steam etc ?

As far as I understand it the software will still be available direct from TGC, steam is just an alternative.

glad to hear that one, not everyone wants to be dependant on steam and the ruthless ways in which they control gaming world. admitting i have all my games linked to steam, but i am really not happy that you have to go online to play, or be online to get the go to then go offline. etc. i want my games and tgc stuff seperate and also optional to link with steam. both options is great

That's EXACTLY my position on the subject...Well said !! ( I was wrong ..GameGuru on steam is the best decision ever made )

Like you I also have games on steam but mainly Bargains and bundle packs at stupid prices that I play now and again for fun...
But anything I really want to own ... I want it standalone ...

Hell I even emailed, begged, annoyed and finally bought an old stock FPS Creator X10 a couple months ago from TGC because I wanted to own the original standalone Dvd

Great news. I'm not a fan of the whole way steam works. I bought Half-Life 2 through it, but never really liked how it worked. I've actually not bought other products on there because of how it works. Having TGC direct as an alternative is perfect.

There are no plans to go exclusively to Steam, and our release plans for Steam are still forming. As soon as we consider any changes, we will certainly throw it into the community and see what you think.

Sorry for the newbie questions but I got out of the loop since Lee's blog stopped, FPSC Reloaded became GameGuru and it got into Steam.

What's the latest version of GameGuru? I see a thread created by Rick announcing GameGuru 1.00.029 but in My Products I can only see FPSC Reloaded BETA 1.01 updated on February 15, 2015. Does GameGuru is going to be available through Steam exclusively? One last thing. What's the deal with linking a Steam profile to my account here? Is it necessary? Because I read something along the lines of an authentication of the product.

Any help will be highly appreciated!

Its exclusively through Steam now. You should have received a Steam key for it? Which you use to activate it on steam to download.

Thanks Teabone, Pirate Myke for your replies. Is there anything I have to know about linking my Steam profile to my account here? I'm new to Steam so I kind of know nothing about it. Thanks again!

Hi zoltar

Firstly get your steam key from your account ( top right ) and then activate your key and install via steam ...
So open steam and on the very top left you will see ...Steam ...View ...Friends ....Games...Help..

Select ...games ...then "Activate a product on steam "
Enter your key and installation will proceed ..... As for issues with linking your account 99% are fine and the odd users have issues that are easily sorted from here .... Try first and see how it goes ..

Hope that helps

Hi,
I have only been with steam for a little while since I am now semi-retired.
The main thing about steam that I do not like is you purchase a steam licence for a product.
So one day Steam will sell-out, closedown, or move on, and everyone will lose their rights to all their games, software, dlc etc.
So as I see it we don’t own a product licence, to me “we are leasing it” for a long as steam is around.
If I truly owned the rights to a product I should be able to run it on windows exclusively, and not be tied to Steam in any way.
I am sure that they have the right and ability to unlink the licence key and render an application in operational once they move on.
I may be old, but at least my memory still ....hmmm

You can use GameGuru offline ....
or create a shortcut from the GameGuru.exe to your desktop which will load right away without activating steam .

That's always been a concern to me as more and more things move into "the cloud", but I see Steam being around a long time. In the event they are bought, merged, whatever, any contracts that they have should still be honored by whoever is involved. Anyway, a piece of software bought today will be irrelevant in ten years anyway, unless it's continually updated (probably less). Besides that, TGC still holds the reigns here. If Steam disappeared tomorrow, I'm sure they would still honor anything that went through Steam. They're a good bunch! (Or they've been blowing smoke for the past decade and a half plus)

EDIT: Of course, I just purchased Mega Packs 1 and 2 on Steam and paid through PayPal. Upon completion, it forwarded me to my TGC account page, which had the key for one of them, but not the other. Upon refreshing the page to see if the other followed, the first one was gone. I will surely watch my bank account to make sure that transaction hasn't taken place!!

I will, Myke, thanks! So far, no indication in my bank account that anything happened, but it was weird. I actually saw the pack and the key listed on my TGC account page (I already had the 4 packs from the gold pledge listed as well). When I refreshed, it was gone. Oh, well, I will try again after a couple days when I am ABSOLUTELY certain nothing took place already! Thanks again!

I'm also not comfortable/care for Steam and glad I can run GameGuru without Steam. A direct account download would be preferred, but also seems multi-player is through the Steam system, I know running indie servers can be pretty expensive but its a option you might wish to consider and charge a small monthly fee for it. Other Indie companies do it this way quite successfully.

The problem i have with steam is you can`t stop or roll back a patch / update.
so if the patch / update stops the app working you then have to wait for another to get it working again
weather it`s an hour, day, week.

Wait for it Someone is going to say yes you can . You can1t all you can do is turn off automatic update
which will stop steam updating while it`s sitting around.
As soon as you run the game or program it will be updated (well i suppose you could disconnect from the internet every time )
Or make a backup but then again when you run the backup it will be updated.

Unless this has all changed but i don`t think it has.

Rolling back is kind of hard on a steam system update, I have seen it once for a debug for a user, and they had to go thru a bunch of steps and get a key for it. That was a special case in debugging, and have been told, that it is rather difficult for it to be rolled back.

Maybe in time we will have that feature. Not particularity fond of steam myself. lot of extra overhead.

Yeah, I have zero interest in Steam.
I definitely dislike having to install a program\client just so I can install software I have bought from another company.
I can see the benefit of Steam for multiplayer stuff, but I would much rather not be tied to Steam for a feature I won't use.

I have not doubt that TGC will look after their customers no matter what happens to Steam - But the fact is, Steam exists on my system only because I am forced to use it so I can install and update GameGuru.
