I think you would be best to wait until it becomes easier as at the moment it is very difficult, just see rolfys thread on the subject. But this is something that's going to be worked on so it will be one of those things we just need to have patience and wait for

PC Specs: Windows 7 home 64-bit, Amd 7900 3gb DDR5 graphics, 8gb DDR3 Ram, Intel i7 3.4ghz

For instant results this looks great.....Click "Watch Video" at the top of the screen

But it looks expensive... I like the way you can just add the animations from a selection of pre-defines..

I'm waiting before I start doing character work for Reloaded. With all these recent updates related to the gun positions and etc I'm wondering if this is a base update for any character created that you give a gun or if its solely for the modern masked terrorist character.

To create a character from scratch is amazingly difficult and requires a multitude of skills to accomplish. 3D modelling and animation, texturing, export pipelines, formats and versions knowledge, technical artist experience for integration with the Reloaded engine, entity creation know-how and customizing of AI scripts. It is for this reason we are looking forward to providing a Character Creator module which will take the pain out of character creation and is perhaps why it is so highly voted on by the community.

If reloaded supported 3rd party characters .X format out of the box and the ability to add our own animation range would be great

Indeed it is, Synchromesh! I hadn't looked at their site in quite a while, but what they have going on now is quite a deal compared to what they used to charge. $1500/year for full access really isn't bad. Outside of doing that, though, they are still charging approximately $25/motion, though. Imagine how much a Reloaded character would cost at that rate! Over $2500!!! Thank you, TGC!!!!

While a character creator would be awesome and certainly a asset that would be welcome, my only concern is that it might have a very cookie cutter format and lack the customability necessary to create more nuanced characters or NPCs for total creative freedom. Animals and monsters for example.

So i would have a number of questions about the character creator

-will it allow for organic character building? (asymmetry, extra or missing limbs, deformed proportions etc)

-will it allow for the import of custom textures, clothes and animations?

-will it allow for multiple models for the same character entities?

(mutilated corpses for death animations for example)

I think Lee\'s point is not just the modelling process but also the rigging and animation process can be quite agonising.

While i understand this point, the rigify stock rig in Blender does go a long way to bringing down the barrier to entry a great deal. Anyway the information to make characters from scratch should be available to those that feel up to the task (IMHO).

Oh rigging is simple...although I work in Maya so is probably much different esp since Maya is industry standard for 3d animations so it may have easier to use rigging tools.

The exact details of the character creator will be revealed nearer the time, we are obviously looking to make a powerful yet easy to use tool and any suggestions will be considered.

Personally, I would love to see something similar to Oblivion, and skyrim that allows armor changes, hair, etc. riggable to a base body mesh, and changeable on the fly via a scripted menu system similar to what those games use.

This would allow for unlimited character, and NPC creation for any game type, by simply modifying armor meshes.
