I've searched for this but did not find the answer. How do I set it so that my game uses the flashlight?

Thanks.

Editing the flashlight is definitely something I am interested in, as well. I am not entirely happy with how it works now but I did read that there are plans on adding more settings for the flashlight in the future.

This will be possible via lua we just need more commands

If anyone can provide a series of attributes for flash light changes, I can then add to the list as a comprehensive item. So far it would look like this:

Allow Flashlight system to be customised via LUA commands to control brightness, color, range. Regular LUA scripting can be used to then create effects like flash light batteries running low, flickering and other operational effects.

What about attaching it to a weapon or holding it in your hand? Stand alone entity, you must find it to use it. Same with the batteries. You can find the light, then the batteries, the batteries can be scripted to last XX amount of time, as the time fades, the light dims, turning it off will save battery, then you must find fresh ones. Change the cone for the light emission and allow changes for color. Bright white when fresh batteries are installed, yellow as they drain out, then obviously, back to darkness.

That's the sort of thing. We'll crack on with the core stuff first and then return to features like these to make the game much more diverse.

What I'd like to see, eventually, if the flashlight is an item in on itself and have the ability so that you can only use it if your charactr is in an unarmed state.

But there's the thing in real life you can hold a flashlight and a handgun so don't limit it, don't barcode it make it as free and accessible as possible to Lua

PC Specs: Windows 7 home 64-bit, Amd 7900 3gb DDR5 graphics, 8gb DDR3 Ram, Intel i7 3.4ghz

Making it as accessible as possible means considering all and every approach. I have a specific idea in mind for my game and would like it so that you can't use a flashlight whilst being equipped with an item, it makes sense from an internal view of it.

Well if it's scriptable, it could be set to not equip if another item is in hand, yes. If the current lua commands will allow it.

In Doom 3 you had a choice of flashlight or gun that did not work at all and annoyed the hell out of me and many others in fact they changed it in patches and Doom BFG because of complaints so personally for me it would be holding a torch whilst armed.

However that does not mean to say it wont work in other style of game so Dralel may well require an option for that as part of his project so both options would be a big bonus really
