Would it be within the scope of possibility to allow for even larger landscapes in a future iteration? Perhaps San Andreas or Washington wastelands (Fallout 3) sized?

fallout 3 is not 1 map, from what I gather its several maps put together to look like 1 giant terrain. same I guess for skyrim?.

when the multi map levels is unlocked I imagine you will be able to duplicate this effect with reloaded to some degree. or at least I hope so lol...

I'm not sure about that. In FO3 if you stand at an elevated point in some places you can make out landmarks almost on the other side of the game world.

In San Andreas less so because of the PS2 standard draw distances.

yes this is true you can see the maps other locations from distance but you also have to wait the odd second or 2 here and there for loading parts of the map outside, a small transition but still there.

im sure fo3 uses cell maps same as fallout nv does in its geck tool? or at least I thought it did anyways, I could be wrong however lol.

Yea you are right almightyhood it loads on the fly in fallout if you use a trainer to fly you simply go through buildings in the distance and they look bad.
