Does anyone know why this is happening as you can see from the pic below the terrain looks so bad!. The left part looks ok then the right is just so messed up

This has been like this since the start and is caused by texture stretching. Lee as expressed a concern about the look of it, so rest assured it is at least on the list of items that need looking at .

thanks for the reply Scene this is the first time i have had this even when i shrink the hill back down to be smaller than the hill on the left it stays stretched like that Ahh well at least lee knows about it as its dam ugly lol

haha yes it is, i tend to random my start level as much as possible and then take one i am happy with so i don't need to touch it much after simply because hills are so un-hill-like when made by us

I am looking into techniques which can map an alternative texture to the 'sides' of terrain. At present it only knows about XZ UV so will hugely stretch the texture that is typically intended for horizontal coverage.
