Hi,

In the first minutes of working with FPSCR I found that it is annoying to go to different parts of your level only by moving or zooming out and then zooming in to the place you want.

So I thought it can be great if we had a minimap like strategic games, click on any part of the map and you move there.

It can open and close by pressing M or clicking on an icon.

The ability to move and changing the size of it is nice to.

Putting it outside of the area of editor is nice for someone like me who is working with 2 monitors.

When looking through the files you see there is a compass hud. I am sure that could be modded to be a compass/map in the future.

does a minimap not use either a top down camera view to see the map surrounding the player, or a screen shot top down picture of the terrain to make the minimaps in games?

not being to in the know on these things am curious to know how they work?.

i always thought it was either of the above, but i guess there is other ways to do it?.

yes this i understand, just don't make much sense to me if the 2 above ways are used. 1st the minimap will be just that, imo to small to be effective.

plus zoom and pan are speeded up with holding down shift key. makes life a lot easier, you can also hold ctrl key and the arrows to jump to 1 side or the others on the map quickly also.

hierarchy editing would be easier, just we don't have that maybe never will

hierarchy editing would have a list of each item you used on the map. and would jump to the wanted entities by right clicking on them in the list.

mini map in a game made would of course be much needed and appreciated lol, but in editor im not so sure it would work out to well. i have yet to see a minimap in a editor yet so don't know of course for sure, but it would for me take up valueable space and course a performance drop i would think?! as the engine is now mapping the scene twice.

no reason it couldnt be in a seperate (over the top) window, just needs a basic top down camera view which translates any mouse click into coords for the editor camera

as for performance, just make it optional and thus people who want it can enable it.

definitely not going to be added any time soon though even if they decide to add it, maybe one of the much much later additions because this is really just that - a nice addition.
