Managed to get the big guy into GameGuru and walking about. I need to play around with the AI script a little as he isn't really responding too well, plus, I need to get the sounds sorted and get some more animations in there!

A lot to do still, but, we are on the right track.

Cheers

Jay.

I have uploaded the cartoon packs to the store now!

They have been approved and are now available for download.

You can get the asset pack from here.

or

The building pack from here

I will be releasing all of the puzzles, weapons, characters, skyboxes and custom audio in a separate pack, once I have squashed all the bugs and have ensured that it all works perfectly.

Thanks in advance to anyone that purchases it. If there any issues or ideas for additions to the pack, please feel free to contact me.

If you do purchase the pack, please post images here, I would be really interested to see what you create!

Cheers

Jay.

Hey unfamillia.
I just wanted to say that the new cartoon pack is awesome, been looking for something like this for a long time.
Im currently waiting for my purchase to be accepted.
I want to make a game like this for my kids, so I need to make my own content in addition to yours.
I was wondering if you could help me tho. How did you make the black border around each object? It cant be texture because it moves around the object, am I wrong?

Thanks for any help and gratz on an awesome pack

@Knicker Thief,

(great name) I will put a small tutorial together so that people can make the assets themselves.

It won't be for a few days, but, I will post it here.

Thanks for the comment.

Cheers

Jay.

Thats great thank you.
I have already learned alot from your other tutorials.
I really dont mean to be a pest, but is there anyway you can briefly explain to me about the border? Is it texture or edit the fpe file or something?
Sorry to be a pain, my daughter wants to see how much progress I have made and she will be home in 2 days time lol

It will be tricky to explain in a few sentences, but, here we go.

What software are you using to model?

I use Blender, so, these instructions will be for that.

After you have finished modelling the base mesh and have UV'd and textured it all, you need make a duplicate (Shift+D) of the whole model, while leaving it in the exact same space as the original. (right click to not set the position)

Then, in the texture you will need to make a small square of near black (#0e0e0e is what I have been using.). Grab all of the UV's from the duplicate and shrink them down to fit inside the black square. Then reverse the normals so the texture is on the inside.

Then, just scale (Alt+S) the duplicate, a tiny amount, until you can see the black line appear.

That's it.

As I said, I will make a video.

Cheers

Jay.

To all the modelers out there that have wanted to know how I achieved the 'feature edge' around the models, I present to you, a very quick (possibly rushed) video, explaining everything!

Use this information wisely; go forth and create your own feature edge models that will work with mine!

Cheers

Jay.

quick question jay, your video for basic animation helped a lot at that time but I am curious now for how you animated that golem of yours as that must be bone animation, tried myself a few different things but one of your tutorials on this kind of animation would really be great and helpful. No rush and I'll understand if you don't have time but thought i'd throw it out there . cheers and love your work

Hi AuShadow,

Yeah, the Golem uses bones for animation, instead of just animating the vertices.

I can put a quick video together.

One point to note is, if you are animating with bones, be sure to change the shader from entity_basic.fx to character_basic.fx. If you use bones, that's the shader you need.

Should be able to get a video up soon mate.

Cheers

Jay.

Oh dear! My thread slipped on to page two of the forum boards! That's not good!

Good job I have a little video to show you what I have been up to!

I am in the process of making a pack of varying switches, buttons, levers and all sorts of other magical things, to help you open doors, activate consoles or access secret areas.

The above is a number pad. The player uses their keyboard to enter the code and the buttons on the model animate, according to which number is pressed on the keyboard.

A BIG thanks to 3Com, SisterMatic and Corno1 for the help with the script.

Cheers

Jay.

Thanks! That's quite the compliment! I am making some medieval switches as well. If you have anything in mind, let me know and I will get working on it.

@Harry,

As you will know, in Classic, we used to have LOADS of switches as stock assets, so, I thought, someone needed to fill the void.

@Tarkus1971,

Yup, these will be in the store. I want to get a couple more sorted before I upload anything. However, if people are after some switches now, I might upload individual ones, as and when I complete them.

Cheers

Jay.

I have been working on a few 'Homemade Weapons'.

I want to make a complete set of them, so, if anyone has any ideas of what wacky things I could include, please feel free to comment. It's doesn't matter how wacky the suggestion is; in fact, the wackier, the better!

Here are two of the melee weapons so far.

As always, comments and criticism is welcome.

Cheers

Jay.

@Harry, thanks for kind words. It's a definite change to the cartoon stuff I have been working on; but, I do enjoy making realistic things as well! haha.

@Syncromesh, great idea. Can't have a weapon pack without a crowbar! I do want it to fit into the 'homemade' category, so, I might add an electrical device to to it, or something else, just to make it different.

Cheers

Jay.

blimey i been out for a while some amazing texturing fella, very nice indeed,. this shows more of what you can do, as cartoon shows only so much, this is very nice, but then when it goes into gg it loses that real edge. but if you make them as if to be medieval or fantasy then i am buying

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnd............I am back in the room.

I have been away for some time. I have been checking in on the forums from time to time, but, my services were not required.

i have decided to make a bunch of models for the store. I will also include one or two freebies in there for good measure.

Without taking up too much of your time, the first item is already in the store.

Are you making a game that takes advantage of a crafting system? Need somewhere obvious for the player to craft items? Good, then this is for you!

https://www.tgcstore.net/product/27838

I will update this post shortly with another addition.

Cheers

Jay.

Good to see you back Jay, been missing ya

Does this mean we'll be seeing more Blender tutorials? Would be great to see you go more in depth about texturing, would definitely be interested in a walk through of how you textured that model, looks awesome!

Good to be back. Feels warm and cosy when I come back.

Quote: "Does this mean we'll be seeing more Blender tutorials? Would be great to see you go more in depth about texturing, would definitely be interested in a walk through of how you textured that model, looks awesome! "

More tutorials you say? Maybe. This was a real pain in the backside to texture. Took a long time getting all of those UV sorted. It was a case of unwrapping and texturing each model individually, then merging all of the separate texture sheets into one large atlas texture. This results in a large texture file size (4096px) and a high poly count (9000). But, it's a detailed model and looks good even when the player is up close.

Cheers

Jay.

Is anyone working on a Sci Fi game? If so, I think I have the thing for you! A whole heap of Sci Fi goodies, all in one pack! All sorts of static models, as well as a bunch of animated ones!

From doors and door frames

To switches

Heck! There's even a barrel in there! This one glows and has handles! OOooooooh!

It's now live on the store

Had to get my hands on those door frames and floor so I just bought the sci-fi pack, love it and the texture work is amazing!

Couple of requests/suggestions if possible:
1) A corner wall piece/floor so that it's easier to make rooms.
2) A ceiling piece so everything lines up in snap mode. (Seems like the floor lined up with the walls but not when used as a ceiling piece.)

Out of curiosity, did you ever make the animated turrets with the control panel option?

Can't wait to see what other sci-fi models/weapons you'll publish next

Consider it done. I have a week off work for my birthday,so, I will have some free time to get cracking with some extra models. I will work on finishing the tunnel pieces.

Nope. Never actually got further with it. It required a lot of scripting on my end, which, unfortunately, isn't my strong point. I will take a look at SmallG's turret script and see what I need to do with the model to get it all working.

Cheers

Jay.

Oh that would be awesome!

Happy birthday Jay!

I remember using the turrets before with SmallG's script, the only thing was just that the top gun/blaster wasn't a separate model from the legs, otherwise it worked great.

Was there ever a fix released for the looping animations on the crate/chest/console/scifi light?
(I think it may have been a bug that applied to a lot of other people's animation scripts.)

I only ask because the "Pull Down Switch" doesn't appear to play the animation, kind of a split-second glitch. And then the Number Pads will double or triple type numbers even if I tap the keyboard really quickly (not holding down the keys at all).

yes there was an inkey and scancode in the same line of lua in the numberpad scripts, that was the problem, someone else found that out. all working good now.

The link is below for the thread. cybernescence found the offending line. He posted the line to as it should be.

@unfamillia, No worries, I'm glad there was an easy fix.

I figured out why the PullDownSwitch wasn't working

1) The .fpe says pulldownswitch.lua but the script that is downloaded is handleswitch.lua, I changed it but the animation still didn't play.
2) In the handleswitch.lua I changed line 27 from "SetAnimation(2)" to "SetAnimation(1)" and it works!
EDIT: "SetAnimation(0)" also seems to work and the switch stays down instead of popping back into place.

I was completely guessing with the LUA code, and I'm not even sure it's right, but it does play the animation now.
